Logistics Inventory Technician

South Metro Fire Rescue is currently seeking a Logistics Inventory Technician. General Position Summary The Inventory Technician is responsible for assisting in the management of inventory consistent with South Metro Fire Rescue’s goals and values. This includes monitoring inventory levels, assets, receiving, and organizing new stock, maintaining records, and coordinating deliveries to stations. The Logistics Inventory Technician liaises with a variety of stakeholders requiring exceptional communication and customer service skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the position and do not list every duty that may be required of the employee for this position. The District retains the right to change the duties and responsibilities of the position at any time without notice. Submits orders for new inventory when levels are low; receives, inspects, and validates shipments against purchase orders to verify accuracy and quality in accordance with SMFR Finance and Logistics Bureau requirements. Adheres to tracking and organizing systems to track inventory movement. Receives input and direction from supervisor. Coordinates deliveries and pickups between stations/departments according to schedules, routes, and supervisor’s priorities. Coordinates deliveries and pickups with external vendors for products and services. Utilizes department purchasing card to purchase supplies; reconciles monthly statements. Serves as courier or coordinates resources to deliver and retrieve assets from various destinations, including the administrative office, fire stations, hospitals, vendors, etc. Drives various District vehicles (truck, van, or passenger vehicle) to deliver and pick up merchandise. Maintains customer service focus for internal and external customers. Complies with District policies and regulations; follows orders and adheres to SMFR’s code of conduct while on duty. Performs annual physical inventory as required and meets with auditors and finance as necessary. Performs repetitive work in building supply bins and sealing them for delivery to the fire stations. Works as a liaison between the line staff and the Logistics Bureau. Attends bureau, division, and team meetings. Participates in rotating on-call shifts; responds to calls in support of mission critical needs when necessary. Serves as a backup to other logistics personnel and participates in bureau wide initiatives related to procurement, special projects, and transportation logistics. Performs other job‑related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in logistics industry procedures. Experience in warehousing, customer service and computer knowledge with certifications preferred. Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the SMFR’s Driving Records Policy. Able to achieve and maintain SMFRA Forklift Certification within one (1) year of hire. Must obtain CPR certification within one (1) year of hire. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Denver Metro area, fire department facilities and major street intersections. Knowledge of procurement procedures and practices. Knowledge of shipping and freight practices. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. Ability to lift heavy objects, sit, walk and stand for long periods of time. Ability to comply with and maintain safety standards. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to use sound judgment. Ability to meet and maintain all security and employment requirements, including successfully passing pre‑employment, reasonable suspicion, post‑accident, and random drug and alcohol screenings as required for safety‑sensitive positions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, and outside vendors. Knowledge of basic computer systems and the ability to use a variety of complex software and data management systems. Knowledge of warehousing software and related office and warehousing equipment. Skill in using calculator, copy machine and other office equipment. Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Ability to operate a computer terminal, keyboard, printer, telephone, and other standard office equipment with good proficiency. Ability to operate equipment used in a warehouse environment including dollies, pallet jacks, and truck lifts. Supervision Received Works under the general direction of the Logistics Director. Supervision Exercised None. Equipment and Systems Requires frequent use of equipment including personal computer (including various software packages, database, and spreadsheet programs), SMFR vehicles including forklifts, portable radios, calculators, telephones, facsimile machines, copy machines, printers, and other general office equipment. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Visual and fine/gross motor skills enabling the safe operation of a vehicle during normal as well as hazardous weather situations. Work Environment and General Information While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office and warehousing environment and may be outside in all weather conditions.
