Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary The Registered Nurse Specialty functions under the direction of the Office Manager and/or Physician and is responsible for implementing the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience. The nurse is responsible for coordinating and providing safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age appropriate and culturally aware needs. The nurse addresses the patient/family biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and education needs. The nurse is responsible for delivery of patient care in complex situations, coordination of patient care activities, staff development and professional self-development. The nurse is able to independently perform job functions. Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Patient Care Assesses patient using triage flow sheet and guidelines. Anticipates patient needs, difficulties and potential problems related to diagnosis and situation. Communicates with physicians regarding any complications. Prepares patient and assists provider with examination and procedures, anticipating and providing necessary equipment and supplies. Manages patients with chest pain to facilitate assessment, prevent delays in definitive care and maximize recovery potential. Provides patient education for Holter and event monitors, devices and procedures. Provides education booklet(s). Assists with gathering medical records and ensures confidentiality of records. Assesses need and assists with refills of medications. Patient Flow Coordinates back‑office flow and processes to assure efficiency and accuracy. Facilitates smooth patient flow to decrease wait time and increase office efficiency. Assesses patient needs and symptoms based on data collected, including preventative and screening measures. Prepares patient and assists provider with examination and procedures, anticipating and providing necessary equipment and supplies. Coordinates scheduling of patients in need of new devices (pacemaker, defibrillator, biventricular device) or EP study/ablation, or other labs. Assists in management of Coumadin dosage according to office guidelines and assists physicians. Additional Responsibilities Multi‑tasks and functions without supervision, handling a variety of emergent patients using the triage method. Completes all documentation and charting associated with patient visits and care. Assists physicians with hospital patient rounds (associated responsibility/function/expectation). Assesses patients post‑procedure and arranges follow‑ups. Communicates with physicians regarding any complications of patient recovery. Quality & Patient Care Collaborates with other health‑care team members regarding patient care issues. Initial management of patients with actual or suspected exposure to a biological agent or other potential contaminants, and prevents exposure of staff, physicians and visitors. Collaborates with providers to develop and/or implement clinical policies and procedures to assure quality and safety standards. Coordinates quality‑control development, implementation and monitoring for clinical functions; assures completion and documentation on appropriate logs. Assesses patient consent for surgery/procedures. Educates on the use and applications of event, telemetry and Holter monitors. Clinical procedures Proficient in IV insertion, phlebotomy and venipuncture. Performs electrocardiograms. Obtains laboratory reports, ensures provider review and signature, notifies patients with results and recommendations after provider review, documents and files in chart appropriately. Assures proper collection of specimens and proper preparation of laboratory request forms, including proper coding and billing information. Ensures rooms and equipment are clean, stocked appropriately and supply inventories are maintained. Assist with Voice Mail Retrieves messages and reviews patient EMRs. Messages physicians with patient concerns and responds to patients in a timely manner with orders. Records all phone conversations with patients in EMR. Reports results of tests to patients at physicians’ direction. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, work standards and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associate’s Nursing or Diploma (Nurse); Nursing or Bachelor’s Nursing – Preferred Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s) RN – Regular Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT – RN – Multi‑state Compact BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor Additional License(s) And Certification(s) National certification in area of specialty – Upon Hire Preferred Required Minimum Experience Minimum 1 year of direct patient care in an acute care setting – Preferred Required Minimum Skills Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Inter‑ and intra‑departmental coordination of patient care activities. Delegation skills required. Ability to multi‑task – essential. Function in stressful and emergency situations – essential. Strong detail orientation – required. Computer skills required. Personal time‑management skills required. Compliance with the American Nurses’ Association Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses. Knowledge of and practice within parameters outlined in Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act. Assessment skills required. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
