The Childcare Attendant attends to children 6 weeks to 8 years old in the drop‑in childcare at the YMCA. Scope of Responsibilities Implement the daily program, including developmentally appropriate activities performed in collaboration with peers to complement supervision of children. Supervise and lead the activity areas. Assist in planning and preparing activities. Organize and set up needed materials and supplies. Sanitize toys and play equipment. Support the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed. Ensure the proper ratios are maintained. Have prior experience working with children. Passion for and commitment to the YMCA’s mission and vision. Ability to build rapport with children, parents, and families of diverse backgrounds. Commit to the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s mission. Demonstrate evidence of YMCA team competencies in previous experience or practice. Child Abuse Prevention Report any items that may pose a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor. Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in facilities and programs, including monitoring and supervision. Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor. Complete all child abuse prevention training as required. Qualifications Prior experience working with children. Passion for the YMCA’s mission and vision. Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with diverse families.
