Description: The Speech Therapist provides speech-language pathology evaluations and treatments affecting patient functional abilities. The therapist performs services in a professional manner, respecting confidentiality and demonstrating qualities endorsed by service excellence standards. Services will comply with regulatory requirements and guidelines established by national professional organizations. The therapist is responsible for patient assessment, evaluation, and creating a plan of care and therapeutic interventions for a diverse patient population. Recommendations regarding patient independence and rehabilitation needs may impact service delivery and care placement. The clinician will contribute to program development, quality improvement, and productivity enhancement within an interdisciplinary team. Documentation and processing of interventions must follow established policies for continuity of care and reimbursement. The role requires good judgment and personal skills to maintain positive working relationships with patients and coworkers. The therapist may encounter risks, including exposure to infectious organisms, necessitating the use of precautions and protective equipment. Physical demands of the job include the potential for repetitive or heavy lifting and requiring good body mechanics. Services may be provided in various settings including in-patient, out-patient, home visits, and community events. There may also be occasional travel to remote locations, which could occur in challenging weather conditions. Key functions of the role include assessment and evaluation of patients, development of treatment plans, and implementation of therapy services. The therapist will attend care conferences and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate care plans are established.
