General Statement of Responsibilities The steward plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. This position is responsible for ensuring all dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized in accordance with health and safety standards. The steward also assists with trash removal, and maintaining cleanliness throughout the kitchen and dining areas to support an excellent dining experience for guests of The Heritage Steakhouse. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Washes dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using dishwashing machines or by hand as required. Ensures all cleaned items are properly sanitized, dried, and stored in designated areas. Keeps dishwashing area clean, organized, and free of hazards, maintaining compliance with health and safety standards. Assists in cleaning kitchen equipment, floors, counters, and storage areas at the end of each shift. Empties trash and recyclables and ensures proper waste disposal following community and state regulations. Monitors and restocks cleaning supplies as needed and reports low inventory to supervisor. Assists with food preparation duties as assigned by the Cook or Dining Services Director. Follows all infection control and sanitation procedures, including proper use of PPE and handwashing techniques. Adheres to all Heritage policies and procedures, including safety and emergency guidelines. Demonstrates a positive attitude and maintains professional communication with coworkers and guests. Promote teamwork through cooperative and respectful interactions with co‑workers and other departments. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education/Experience Minimum, high school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in a kitchen or dishwashing role preferred. Licenses/Certifications Food handler’s certification (or ability to obtain upon hire). Character Applicants must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Physical and Personal Requirements The steward works primarily in the kitchen area of the community and may be exposed to heat, steam, and cleaning chemicals. Work involves frequent interaction with dining and kitchen staff and occasional contact guests, ability to work in a warm, humid kitchen environment. Must be able to tolerate cleaning chemicals and kitchen noise levels. Sit or stand for long periods of time. Reach, bend, climb, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs. repetitive hand movement. Compliance Each employee plays a key role in creating a compliance culture. Employees are expected to learn and comply with all Heritage policies and procedures. One must have the ability to understand the implications and complexities of all compliance policies. Participation in all compliance training is mandatory and generally has a heightened awareness of policies and regulations that are specific to one's department and position.
