Geotab is seeking a Legal Summer Student who will work with Geotab’s legal team in commercial and corporate legal matters, legal drafting and research, contract management, and file administration. What you'll do:

As a Legal Summer Student your key area of responsibility will be to support the legal team and other subject matter experts (SME’s) at Geotab with legal advice, research, and drafting. You will also provide administrative support using the legal department’s software tools for contract management, research, and analysis. In addition, you will also need to provide regular status reports to key partners to ensure that special projects, if provided, are delivered on time and meet expectations. As a part of your role, you will need to work closely with various Geotab departments, including, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Business Development, HR, and other departments.

To be successful in this role you should be a team player with the ability to work independently. Other skills that will benefit you within this role are adaptability, problem solving, time management, collaboration and communication. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical, research, organization, and communication skills with an ability to manage multiple timelines and contrasting priorities to ensure timely results.

• 4-month work-term beginning May 2027.

How you'll make an impact:

• Become familiar with Geotab, its products, process and standard procedures, with a special emphasis on those related to the legal department.
• Observe and support negotiations, phone calls, meetings and other interactions between Geotab legal team members and their internal customers and other organizations.
• Assist with drafting, review, and execution of legal agreements with a major focus on software, data privacy and intellectual property.
• Includes, among others, end user agreements, distribution agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and minor vendor contracts.
• Assist legal counsel to deal with litigation matters, subpoenas, and requests for information relating to litigation matters.
• Review, organize and classify the legal team's contract database, identifying non-standard terms and conditions.

What you'll bring to the role:

• Currently enrolled in a Canadian or US accredited law school
• Ability to conduct legal research using Westlaw and other legal research tools
• Familiar with Microsoft, Google and data processing software tools (MS Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, etc)
• Providing input and advice into legal meetings, negotiations, and projects with other Geotab SME’s
• Using the legal team’s software tools to enhance our contract management processes, file administration, and overall organization of legal documents

The annual base salary for this position is the expected annual salary for this role, and may be subject to change. Geotab offers various perks and benefits and other compensation components that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary for this position depends on a variety of factors such as but not limited to skills, qualifications, education and overall experience, including the location the applicant lives while performing the job. This also includes equity with other team members and alignment with local market data. All offers of employment are contingent upon proof of eligibility to work and the individual's ability to pass a background check.

Hiring Range

$21—$27 CAD

This role offers an hourly pay range which is anticipated to be the range listed below. The actual pay for this position depends on a variety of factors such as but not limited to student's academic program, relevant experience, and location. Geotab is committed to fair and equitable compensation and will share final details as part of the offer process. All offers of employment are contingent upon proof of eligibility to work for the duration of the internship and the individual's ability to pass a background check.
