Automotive Maintenance Technician

Performs skilled work in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of automobiles and medium-duty diesel vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. This includes diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring vehicles operate safely and efficiently.

Inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension.

Perform routine and preventive maintenance on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles.

Specialize in medium-duty diesel engines, including troubleshooting and repair of fuel systems, emissions, and electronic controls.

Use diagnostic tools and software to identify issues and recommend solutions.

Maintain accurate service records and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Order and maintain parts, tools, and equipment as needed.

Assist with and/or perform additional duties as required by operating needs or as directed by management.

May be required to work non-regular hours.

Education & Experience:

High School diploma or GED required; technical certification in automotive or diesel technology preferred.

Minimum 2 years of experience in automotive repair, with at least 1 year focused on medium-duty diesel engines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong knowledge of automotive systems, diesel engines, and diagnostic procedures.

Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.

Familiarity with federal and state safety regulations for vehicle maintenance.

Requires following strict safety protocols and ability to ensure all applicable safety practices are in place and followed.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow directions.

Primarily indoor shop environment with occasional outdoor work. Exposure to extreme temperatures, wet or humid conditions, and outdoor weather.

Exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, electrical shock, vibration, airborne particles, loud noise, high places, hazardous materials.

Walking, sitting, standing, climbing, crawling, stooping, crouching, talking, hearing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.

Regularly lift up to 40 lbs; occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.

May require wearing a respirator.
