Job Description

This role focuses on demolition and carpentry work for commercial medical buildings in Rochester, including remodeling and retrofitting projects. You will read and interpret blueprints, perform framing and finish carpentry, install drywall and other interior components, and support general construction activities while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform demolition work in commercial buildings, including complete teardowns in preparation for new structures.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand project scope and construction requirements.
• Measure, cut, and assemble framing, partitions, doors, windows, and other structural components with accuracy.
• Install drywall, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, doors, windows, trim, and other finish carpentry elements in commercial settings.
• Retrofit and install doors and related hardware as part of remodeling and upgrade projects.
• Operate hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently, including hammers, chisels, levels, saws, drills, and nail guns.
• Collaborate with other trades such as electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians to coordinate construction activities and maintain project timelines.
• Inspect and repair damaged structures and fixtures as needed to meet building codes and company standards.
• Follow all applicable building codes, regulations, and internal standards to ensure compliance and quality workmanship.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to job site safety protocols throughout each project.
• Perform general labor tasks as needed to support the crew, including material handling, site cleanup, and basic construction assistance.
• Use measuring tools, including tape measures, to lay out materials and verify dimensions before cutting and installation.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of construction experience in a commercial or similar environment.
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure for layout, cutting, and installation tasks.
• Experience with carpentry work, with 1 year of carpentry experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural plans, technical drawings, and basic building codes.
• Strong measuring and layout skills, including precision in marking and preparing materials for cuts and assembly.
• Proficiency with hand tools such as hammers, chisels, levels, and measuring devices.
• Proficiency with power tools such as saws, drills, and nail guns, with a focus on safe and efficient operation.
• Skills in framing and structural work, including building walls, floors, roofs, and other structural components.
• Ability to perform finish carpentry, including installing trim, molding, cabinetry, doors, and windows with attention to detail.
• General labor capability, including lifting, carrying materials, and supporting various construction tasks on site.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in commercial construction environments, particularly medical or office buildings.
• Experience in concrete work and related construction tasks.
• Drywall installation, taping, and mudding experience for remodel and retrofit projects.
• Comfort working with a variety of trades and adapting to changing project needs.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, professional finish work.
• Reliability and punctuality, with the ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment

This position is based on site at commercial buildings in Rochester, primarily medical and office facilities undergoing remodels and upgrades. You will work in active construction areas performing remodels, retrofitting doors, complete teardowns for new structures, and extensive drywall installation, taping, and mudding. The environment involves regular use of hand and power tools, working around other trades, and adhering to job site safety standards. Work is performed indoors within commercial facilities, with typical construction site conditions such as noise, dust, and ongoing activity. Appropriate work attire includes durable clothing and footwear suitable for a commercial construction job site, along with any required personal protective equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, MN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Rochester,MN.
