Facility Maintenance Technician

Job Overview Amentum is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician to join its operations & maintenance team in New Haven, CT. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00AM to 3:30PM, though it may vary on business demand. The role involves responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing emergency and preventive maintenance on building equipment in a pharmaceutical environment. The technician will work under minimal supervision as part of a self‑directed work team and may perform general maintenance duties, including carpentry, painting, and sheet metal work, as well as support other licensed trades. Responsibilities Safely perform job functions following safety guidelines, job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout procedures, and wearing required PPE. Operate, maintain, and repair all facility and production equipment in compliance with company regulations and standards. Analyze equipment failures, inspect, replace, alter, and maintain building and related equipment in good repair. Perform planned maintenance on all building equipment and related services for the specific area while being responsive to customer needs. Use troubleshooting techniques on mechanical equipment (HVAC, pumps, agitators, and distribution systems) to identify problems and effect repairs promptly to minimize downtime. Perform preventive maintenance inspections. Provide support to co‑workers, contractors, vendors, project managers, building managers, and engineers for project and renovation work. Comply with all governmental, company, and industry regulations, codes, safety practices and permit systems. Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to perform scheduled preventive maintenance and track work orders. Respond to and communicate with customers about work orders while ensuring compliance with codes and industry standards. Recommend improvements to maintenance methods and equipment performance. Operate measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to support energy‑efficiency solutions. Operate hand tools, laptops, and diagnostic hardware to perform work. Maintain a strict schedule while demonstrating flexibility for day‑to‑day activities and scheduling needs of the customer. Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor. Minimum Requirements 3 years of maintenance experience in General Construction, Painting, or General Maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years of HVAC repair/preventive maintenance experience. Ability to obtain a security access badge at the client’s location. Proficiency in reading and understanding information displayed across documents and computer screens. Fluency in computer use, including the full Microsoft Office product line. Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for facility credentials/authorization at this location; the position does not sponsor work authorization. Regularly lift 50lbs; climb ladders, steps, and scaffolding; perform repetitive motions; walk extensively; work at an accelerated pace in emergencies. Wear steel‑toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other required PPE. Ability to cope with job‑related stressors and work environment demands. Preferred Qualifications Technical degree. HVAC license. Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams. Experience with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, boilers, compressors, dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems. Experience using a CMMS; EAMS experience is a plus. Experience interpreting written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule instructions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Compensation Hourly rate: $38.00–$42.00. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as responsibility, education, experience, market data, and applicable laws.
