Respiratory Therapist - PRN

Hi, my name is Rebecca. I am a respiratory therapist here at Cleveland Clinic Indian River. I've been here close to 28 years.

I have the most fantastic job you could ever want, and probably the most unknown part that people don't know about what I do, respiratory here is everywhere. We're in the emergency room when trauma comes in, we're upstairs when a person can't breathe with issues of asthma or COPD.

We're in critical care working alongside the doctors, making decisions, intubating, and along with intubation, we do A-lines, working side by side between the doctors and nurses, and of course on the floors. So if you really wanna make a difference, this is a job you should consider. One other thing that we do, is we involve the students.

The respiratory students come here and they get to learn on the job experience. Teamwork. It's all about teamwork.

We work alongside the doctors and nurses during special procedures. We have a protocol system that we can actually save the doctor's time, to help our patients by being able to change things as needed without addressing to the doctors. If you truly wanna make a difference in people's lives, if there's a code blue, if you think about it, who goes?

Everyone. We're running to it. The room opens up, we head to the head of the bed.

I do on a regular routine. Patients become to know you because we become family. And Cleveland Clinic is family here.

If you think about it, when a patient comes in and can't breathe, and they see your face saying, you have it, you've got it all together. So, it's a wonderful family teamwork environment.
