Custodian - 2nd Shift

CustodianOrganizational Reports to the Head Custodian, Building Principal and Custodian Supervisor and is under the general supervision of other district administrators. Time Schedule Two hundred sixty (260) days Vacation per current agreement. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED Knowledge of basic computer skills Criminal background check or investigation that is free of violations that prohibit public school employment Meet all mandated health requirements Ability to be punctual and maintain a consistent attendance record Ability to deal tactfully with the public Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other employees Ability to work with children Ability to problem solve Ability to work independently Ability to take and follow directions Ability to respond to building emergencies Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch, crouch, climb, balance, kneel and stoop. Job Specific Qualifications Must have working knowledge of custodial duties and the use of cleaning equipment Ability to lift 80 pounds and perform other heavy work. In general must have ability to lift, carry and/or move supplies and equipment necessary to fill his/her essential functions/responsibilities Ability to learn appropriate skills for position Ability to perform strenuous physical activities Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time Ability to use and operate lifts and scaffolding. General Responsibilities Assist head custodian in the daily operations of the building, make all incoming deliveries, keep school building clean on a daily basis, prepare facility for the next school day for teachers, students and visitors, maintain grounds, perform all applicable custodial duties. Perform custodial duties to protect and preserve board-owned buildings, grounds, equipment and furnishings. Specific Responsibilities Ensure safety of students Work overtime as required Participate in occupational safety and health training programs as required Attend meetings and seminars as required Complete paperwork as required Make contacts with public with tact and diplomacy Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and public Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation Maintain records and complete reports Maintain school grounds and landscape Trash removal and operate recycle program Shovel and remove snow from school grounds Mow school lawns Trim bushes and trees Maintain clean and safe mechanical and custodial rooms Sweep, vacuum, mop, strip, and wax floors and steps. Clean carpets and walk off mats. Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails and pencil sharpeners Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and bathroom tissue dispensers in all rest rooms Remove cobwebs, clean windows and chalk boards Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials Clean and sanitize building to include, restrooms, classrooms, halls, walls, cafeteria drinking fountains, shower rooms, mop closets, kitchens, athletic rooms, glass display cases, lockers, lounges and gyms. Follow approved safety procedures to clean up injuries involving chemicals, solvents blood, bodily fluids and/or tissues Comply with safety regulations and environmental laws, including verifying that custodial supplies are labeled, inventoried and stored properly. Move heavy articles such as desks, tables, file cabinets etc. Responsible for the proper cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities Order supplies for custodial use Prepare and maintain an annual equipment inventory and prepare seasonal equipment for storage Polish furniture and woodwork as necessary Ability to maintain sweepers, vacuums, floor care equipment, carpet scrubbers, mowers, blowers and weed eaters Report damage to building and equipment which require repair Exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces.
