Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psych RN)

We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team, providing compassionate care to patients in a psychiatric setting. This role is essential in delivering quality nursing care while managing the unique challenges faced by individuals with behavioral health diagnoses.

Job Details

Shift: 12-hour shifts from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years in psychiatric nursing
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Yes, every other holiday

Unit Information

The nursing unit consists of the following areas:

  • General Adult Unit - 14 beds
  • Special Care Unit - 8 beds
  • Child and Adolescent Unit - 14 beds

Staffing is managed as one unit, and nurses may provide care to both adults and children, with a typical focus on adults.

Patient Care Responsibilities

The RN will be responsible for managing the care of 6 to 7 patients, which includes:

  • Conducting regular patient rounding every two hours
  • Providing support during admissions and discharges
  • Utilizing de-escalation skills to effectively manage patient behaviors
  • Using the Epic system for patient documentation

Common diagnoses include schizophrenia, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation.

Qualifications

Certifications: Current BLS certification (AHA)
Skills Required:

  • Strong de-escalation skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage care for multiple patients efficiently

Additional Requirements: No experience in titrating drips is necessary, and no charge nurse or house supervisor responsibilities are included.

Work Environment

Registered Nurses will work collaboratively within a supportive team, including nursing aides with a ratio of 1:14 when fully staffed. The RN is expected to assist with patient care as needed, particularly in the event of short staffing.

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a two-shift orientation process, covering both adult and pediatric care in the psychiatric unit.

Dress Code

Navy blue scrubs are required while on duty.

Additional Information

The RN position may involve some flexibility regarding patient assignments and the need to adapt to changing unit needs. Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas.
