Patient Care Assistant

Under the guidance of a licensed nurse (RN, LPN, or shift manager), the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) delivers direct patient care with compassion and attention to safety.

Adheres to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and promptly alerts nursing staff to any changes in patient condition. Performs basic care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility support. All duties are carried out following hospital policies to ensure quality outcomes and patient safety. Collaborates closely with nursing personnel to meet patients' fundamental needs and responds swiftly to patient requests, enhancing their overall experience. Accurately documents all care activities to support clinical decision-making and communicates relevant patient information to the healthcare team to improve outcomes.

High school diploma or GED is preferred.

One year of experience and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.

If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, attendance at a PCA training academy is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

This role requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs., turning, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching, and frequent walking.

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
