Job Summary:

This position is responsible for transporting finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers, inspecting vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and planning routes and meeting delivery schedules.

Regional Driver Pay

• When running Regional, commissioned drivers will be paid a percentage of the customers’ freight rate based on the following pay range:
• Drivers with less than two years of experience will start at 23.0%.
• Drivers with 2-4 years of experience will start at 24.0%
• Drivers with less than 5 years of CDL experience will be eligible for an increase to 25.5% after 6 months of active employment. Any preventable accidents within the first six months will delay eligibility until the driver completes an additional 90 consecutive days accident-free.
• **The six-month eligibility period is measured by active employment time. Any absence of 7 consecutive days or longer will extend the eligibility date by the length of the absence, regardless of reason. This includes, but is not limited to; bereavement, military duty, PTO, sick time, medical leave, and unpaid leave.
• Drivers with 5+ years of verifiable experience will earn 26.5% once seated and driving solo.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure safe and timely delivery of freight to customer appointments.
• Safely maneuver tractor-trailers at customer docks for loading and unloading.
• Complete all required paperwork in a professional and timely manner, including but limited to, bills of lading.
• Maintain cleanliness of company-owned equipment.
• Keep tractor and reefers properly fueled at all times.
• Use excellent communication with dispatch and compliance with any delivery or safety concerns while on the road.
• Understand and follow all Department of Transportation rules and regulations as well as company policy.
• Complete proper pre and post trip inspections on all equipment per company requirements.
• Comply with all hours of service requirements using provided Electronic Logging Device (ELD).
• Report mechanical problems to maintenance using the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) section of the ELD.
• Route-plan all trips in advance to ensure on-time delivery or pickup.
• Maintain a positive attitude with customers and RMI employees.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must be able to pass DOT drug and alcohol tests, including random testing.
• Must meet driver requirements as outlined in company policy.
• Must have a current and valid medical certificate as noted on their motor vehicle report (MVR).
• Ability to safely operate tandem tractor-trailer equipment with 53 ft. trailers in all types of circumstances including intercity, inter-state, and intra-city travel.

Education and Experience:

• Current Class A CDL commercial driver license.

Job Location:

This position will travel regionally between customer locations throughout the Midwest and Northeast and our Terminal in Mattawan, MI and Warehouse in Paw Paw, MI.

This position is often physical in nature requiring the employee to crank trailer dollies using various levels of force, occasionally lift product, kneel and crawl to properly inspect the tractor and trailer, and extend and twist to connect air lines.
