Position Title: Police Officer I Job Category: University Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Police Officer I Job Duties: The job of a police officer is a sworn and state certified peace officer position assigned to University Police and Security Services. Police officers operate under the general direction of the Chief of Police /Director of University Police and Security Services. A police officer will provide a full range of law enforcement and security services. Police officers will enforce laws, respond to threats, investigate complaints and suspicious occurrences and incidents which may impact the University, maintain order, assist people, identify criminal activity, apprehend offenders, identify the source of problems in the community and work with the community to resolve issues. The police officer will support the department’s mission by providing essential functions while respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals. **Full position description is available upon request. ** Key Job Responsibilities: Provides personal safety and crime prevention education to institutional community Engages in problem solving, threat mitigation, and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens, groups, campus entities, government agencies, businesses, leaders, and others Ensures the safe and orderly flow of traffic on institutional roadways and enforces traffic laws Performs preliminary and follow-up investigations to solve crimes, identify suspects and victims, apprehend criminals, and document case information Provides protection of life, property, and the preservation of peace and good order and provides emergency aid to the institutional community Department: University Police and Security Services is the Campus law enforcement authority, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The primary goal is the protection of the University, its occupants, and the surrounding community. University Police operate in a full law enforcement capacity and have a close working relationship with the Stevens Point Police Department. Compensation & Benefits: The Police Officer is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt, annual position. Well-qualified candidates can expect an hourly rate of $35. Required Qualifications: Requires certification as a police officer in the State of Wisconsin upon appointment Completion of the WI 720 Law Enforcement Academy Knowledge of or the ability to learn the functions of a campus law enforcement operation. Associates degree or higher Effective oral and written communication Knowledge of federal, state laws and UW System rules Knowledge of current investigatory techniques and procedures Preferred Qualifications: Previous sworn law enforcement experience Knowledge or experience with university system law enforcement Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university How to Apply: TO ENSURE CONSIDERATION: Applications received by August 3, 2026 are ensured full consideration.
