Registered Nurse-Outpatient Staff

Summary This Registered Nurse position is located in the Outpatient and Specialty Service at the VA Boston Healthcare System - Jamaica Plain location. The position is full-time at 40 hours per week. Qualifications English Language Proficiency – In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in written and spoken English. Educational Credentials – Graduate of a nursing program approved by an accrediting agency (ACEN or CCNE) or participating in a master's level bridge program equivalent to a bachelor's degree. Candidates completing the bridge program may be appointed temporarily and later permanently upon graduation. Foreign Nursing Credentials – Possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration, with formal degree equivalency validation if required, meets the requirement for foreign graduates. Graduates of a Nursing Technician (GNT) program who meet the basic education requirements may be appointed at the entry level on a 120‑day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure. Grandfathering Provision – All current VHA employees in the 0610 series performing the duties described are considered to have met all qualification requirements as of 1/29/2024. Grade Determinations – Applicants must satisfy the education and dimension criteria for the desired grade level. Detailed criteria are available at Physical Requirements – All applicants must be physically able to perform the duties; a pre-placement physical examination is required. Duties Responsible for individual nursing practice and appropriate delegation of tasks to provide optimal outpatient care. Coordinate patient transition through the continuum of care, including patient and family education and self‑management support. Evaluate outcomes of evidence‑based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Document outcomes at the program or service level and provide feedback to peers. Support colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to ensure safe, high‑quality care. Foster a safe and supportive environment conducive to professional development. Work schedule: days, compressed/flexible. Not authorized for telework or virtual work. Relocation and recruitment incentives are not authorized. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary with regular increases and potential for performance awards. Paid time off: 50 days per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays).
