Job Title Pharmacy Clerk Department Pharmacy FLSA Status Non-Exempt General Function Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service. Ensures cleanliness of department. Orders product and supplies and logs invoices as necessary. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all interactions. Smile and greet customers, learn names and address them by name when possible. Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing hard-to-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, noting and passing along suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience. Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to callers. Stock received product and supplies and mark stickers accordingly. Work with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment. Review prescriptions not picked up as requested by department manager. Order product and supplies at the manager’s request. Review invoices on product received; coordinate nursing home medicines as necessary; log invoices. Prepare paperwork and compile medicine for delivery orders and mail‑outs at manager’s request. Clean, empty garbage, and maintain a clean, inviting appearance of the pharmacy. Take orders for refills from customers. Remove trash in a timely manner. Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress. Gather patient information required to prepare prescriptions. Keep pharmacy supplies well stocked. Perform cash transactions. Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines. Report to work when scheduled and on time. Administer vaccines as allowed by law. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Complete the sale. Assist in other areas of store as needed. Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics Ability to follow written, verbal or diagrammatic instructions. Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers. File, post, and mail materials. Copy data from one record to another. Interview to obtain basic information. Guide people. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Over six months up to one year of similar or related experience. Vaccine certification as required by law. Physical Requirements Exert up to 20 pounds occasionally; up to 10 pounds frequently; negligible force constantly to move objects. Perform activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision and field of vision. Working Conditions Exposure to noise on a daily basis. Fast‑paced work environment with significant pressure. Occasional exposure to dangerous chemicals/solvents while compounding products and chemotherapy drugs. Equipment Used to Perform Job PC with pharmacy software and printer, cash register, pharmacy balance, scanner, calculator, telephone, fax, copier. Confidentiality Maintain the confidentiality of customer’s private medical information. Acknowledge risks associated with handling hazardous drugs and commit to follow pharmacy policies and procedures.
