About the Role: The Trailer Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of trailers used in transportation and logistics operations across the United States. This position involves conducting thorough inspections of trailers to identify any mechanical, structural, or safety issues that could impact performance or regulatory compliance. The Trailer Inspector is responsible for documenting findings, coordinating necessary repairs, and ensuring that all trailers meet federal and state safety standards before they are deployed. By maintaining high standards of trailer integrity, this role directly contributes to the prevention of accidents, operational downtime, and costly repairs. Ultimately, the Trailer Inspector supports the overall efficiency and safety of the transportation fleet, safeguarding both personnel and cargo. Minimum Qualifications:
Skills: The required skills enable the Trailer Inspector to conduct comprehensive and precise inspections, ensuring trailers meet all safety and regulatory standards. Attention to detail and mechanical knowledge are essential for identifying potential issues that could compromise trailer safety or performance. Effective communication skills are used daily to report findings clearly and coordinate with maintenance teams to address problems promptly. Computer literacy supports accurate record-keeping and compliance documentation, which are critical for audits and regulatory adherence. Preferred skills such as certification and familiarity with electronic tools enhance the inspector's efficiency and ability to stay current with evolving industry standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience in vehicle or trailer inspection, maintenance, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state transportation safety regulations, including FMCSA guidelines.
- Ability to identify mechanical and structural issues in trailers accurately.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Certification as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector or equivalent.
- Experience working with DOT (Department of Transportation) compliance and safety audits.
- Familiarity with electronic inspection tools and software.
- Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in trailer repair or maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Perform detailed inspections of trailers including brakes, tires, lights, suspension, and structural components to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Identify and document defects or maintenance needs, providing clear and accurate reports to maintenance teams and management.
- Verify that trailers meet all applicable federal and state safety standards and regulations prior to deployment.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to prioritize and schedule necessary repairs or servicing based on inspection findings.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and compliance documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, maintenance teams, and management to ensure timely resolution of trailer issues.
