The Bedford Regional Water Authority is seeking a CIP Maintenance Technician I to join our Capital Improvement Projects team. This entry-level role focuses on the essential construction, installation, and repair of regional water and sewer infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Install and replace water and sewer infrastructure including main lines, service laterals, and valves.

• Perform masonry, plumbing, and pavement restoration tasks as required for project completion.

• Execute excavation, grading, and landscaping duties at job sites.

• Investigate customer concerns and provide technical assistance regarding utility services.

• Maintain accurate records and paperwork for new installations and daily work orders.

• Operate heavy equipment and perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance.

• Clean and maintain assigned service vehicles and specialized tools.

• Follow all directives from the CIP Supervisor to ensure project deadlines are met.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent GED.

• Ability to follow all safety protocols and maintain a secure work environment.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow written or verbal instructions.

• Valid Virginia driver license and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Air and Tank endorsements within six months.

• Compliance with all agency vehicle and equipment operation policies.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Basic Work Zone Traffic Control Certification.

• Basic knowledge of masonry, plumbing, and general maintenance practices.

• Capability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Work Schedule

• Typical work week is Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

• Requires a thirty minute lunch break and availability for emergency on-call shifts.

• Position is designated as essential personnel for emergency utility repairs.

Working Conditions

• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and kneeling in an outdoor environment.

• Physical agility requirements include pushing, pulling, crawling, and repetitive motions.

• Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

• Exposure to various weather conditions and outdoor construction site environments.

In addition to daily operations, Water Authorities engage in long-term planning to support population growth, infrastructure sustainability, and climate resilience. They may oversee conservation programs, emergency preparedness, infrastructure upgrades, and customer education initiatives to promote responsible water use.
