Orano TN is seeking a Design Project Engineer to support the design, procurement, fabrication, integration, and qualification of systems and components associated with spent nuclear fuel storage systems. The position will be based in Columbia, MD, with occasional travel to our Kernersville, NC office or customer sites. Responsibilities Perform standard engineering assignments in design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, specification preparation, field task execution, and field problem resolution. Receive assistance and instructions on unusual or complex features and possible solutions when needed. Ensure compliance with government, organization, and customer engineering standards. Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria, making minor adaptations and modifications. Perform design work using supplied data and markups, utilizing theoretical and practical engineering knowledge. Develop proficiency with SolidWorks software. Prepare drawings, layouts, and sketches under moderate supervision using CAD workstations and appropriate design criteria and technical manuals. Work closely with fabrication engineers to ensure and optimize fabricability of designs and resolve fabrication issues. Understand the engineering design process and welding processes, including non‑destructive examinations. Ensure conformance to applicable standards, codes, company procedures, and policies. Apply advanced CAD techniques and standard design applications using CAD equipment. Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing to designs and drawings. Work on special projects as directed. Additional job responsibilities include: Design of non-safety related equipment. Visit nuclear facilities to determine concerns regarding new equipment designs. Support Operations during field operation of storage, transfer, and transport systems. Support proposal preparation. Support Licensing activities. Compensation Orano offers a total compensation package that includes a competitive base salary, health and wellness programs, 401(k) contributions, and industry-leading paid time off. Pay Range : $90,000–$120,000 per year Qualifications Minimum Requirements : BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology, with 2–3 years of related experience; an advanced degree (MS or MBA) may substitute for 1–2 years of experience; in applicable states, a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4‑year engineering degree. Demonstrated background where quick thinking and problem solving play a critical role. Excellent organization, planning, and priority‑setting skills. Ability to communicate well with vendors, customers, and regulatory authorities. Pre‑employment background check and drug screening required. Desired qualifications (may differentiate candidates) : Master's Degree in Engineering. Working knowledge of ASME Section III, Division 1. Experience at a commercial nuclear facility in system or design engineering. Experience as a Project Engineer overseeing design projects. Experience designing items, structures, or components for fabricability. Experience in a metal fabrication environment. Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and D1.6 welding codes. Familiarity with NRC regulatory requirements. Working knowledge of NQA-1 requirements. Experience performing structural, thermal, shielding, or criticality analysis.
