By joining the Division of Water's Surface Water Permits Branch as the Environmental Engineer Supervisor ofthe Industrial Section in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to lead a team in preparing KentuckyPollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) permits for major and minor industrial facilities dischargingprocess wastewater, Kentucky No Discharge Operation Permits (KNDOP) for industrial and agriculture facilities,KPDES permits for small wastewater treatment plant discharges, and to provide technical and scientificassistance on permitting to the regulated community.

Holders of the Environmental Engineer Supervisor position will complete tasks such as:

• Supervise a team of employees in the Industrial Section including, but not limited to, approving and denyingleave requests, approving timesheets, providing coaching to staff, completing staff evaluations, etc.
• Review draft permit documents for KNDOP permits for industrial and agriculture facilities and KPDESdischarge permits from industrial facilities and sanitary wastewater treatment plants prepared by staff todetermine compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
• Provide technical assistance regarding environmental statutes and regulations related to KPDES permits andKNDOP permits.
• Acts as an expert witness at hearings regarding the permitting programs.
• Represent the Division of Water at meetings and conferences as it relates to KPDES and KNDOP permittingactivities and conducts site visits as required.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
