Melvin Honeycutt Elementary, Fayetteville, North Carolina Title Teacher Assistant Starting Date Aug 12, 2026 FLSA Status Non‑Exempt Position Type Full‑Time Salary $1,219 to $1,725 Per Month Job ID 5752741 (26/27 Assistant - K-5 (50%) 397210) Qualifications Minimum of 24 semester hours completed in any discipline with passing Work Keys Assessments. Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children. Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions. Application Requirements Resume and one of the following: College transcript showing a degree was earned. College transcript showing at least 48 college‑level courses completed (CCS HR does not count any remedial/pre‑requisite courses). College transcript showing at least 24 college‑level courses completed (CCS HR does not count remedial/pre‑requisite courses) plus Work Keys Assessments with passing scores: Workplace Documents (Reading) score ≥ 4, Business Writing score ≥ 3, and Applied Mathematics score ≥ 4. Duties and Responsibilities Academic Assistance Provides group instruction as prescribed by teacher; also delivers individualized instruction. Demonstrates various instructional activities. Checks and corrects students’ work while in progress and keeps students on task. Reinforces student achievement. Reports student progress to teacher. Instructional Preparation/Support Arranges classroom furnishings and equipment; prepares visual aids and duplicates materials. Reorganizes materials at the end of the day. Proctors during testing; scores students’ papers as instructed by teacher; distributes and collects instructional materials. Attends workshops. Report and Records Checks and reports attendance. Enters data into health records, records student behavior, and files data according to regulatory requirements. Monitoring Student Behavior Supervises students in the classroom and other locations. Creates and distributes awards for positive behavior. Promotes student self‑esteem; teaches citizenship, social skills, and respect for others. Reconciles minor student conflicts. Participates in development of discipline and policy. Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods. Reports discipline problems to teacher or principal. Reports significant changes or lack thereof in student behavior. Obtains and maintains CDL bus license. Completes pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections. Drives a bus when called upon while maintaining driving proficiency. Maintains bus route schedule. Discharges students only at authorized stops and transports authorized students. Complies with local and state traffic regulations and observes all mandatory safety regulations. Reports delays and accidents. Cleans the interior of the bus. Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned. Physical Requirements Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) when requested for purposes of driving a school bus. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders. Must possess finger dexterity and be able to perform basic life operational functions (kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion). Special Requirements Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required. Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
