Software Engineer II

Position Overview At Exact Sciences we focus on early cancer detection and treatment guidance. In this EngineerII role you will design, develop, test, and maintain software components of moderate complexity. You will work under general guidance from senior engineers, collaborate with cross‑functional agile teams, and contribute to high‑quality software delivery. Essential Duties Apply solid software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices to develop and maintain Java‑based applications of moderate to high complexity. Design, develop, and test scalable features and services with minimal supervision. Investigate and resolve complex bugs and performance issues. Participate in architectural discussions and evaluate design alternatives, balancing technical quality, business value, and delivery timelines. Communicate task progress, technical challenges, and risks to project stakeholders and engineering leadership. Collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers, QA engineers, DevOps, and other technical teams to deliver high‑quality, maintainable solutions. Support and improve the team’s development processes, ensuring alignment with the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and engineering standards. Assist with deployments and provide production support, including occasional night or weekend availability when required. Demonstrate and promote the company’s values of accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and at least 4years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree. Hands‑on experience in one or more object‑oriented programming languages, preferably Java, writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code. Experience with service communication protocols such as RESTful APIs, gRPC, SOAP, and messaging systems (e.g., message queues and event‑driven architectures). Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and ORM technologies like JPA and Hibernate. Experience building and managing cloud‑based API solutions on AWS, GCP, or Azure, and understanding of cloud‑native design principles and services. Experience working in Scrum teams with a strong understanding of Agile principles and development tools, including JIRA and Confluence. Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems in a healthcare environment. Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR. Basic understanding of DevOps practices, including building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. Benefits Salary Range: $84,000 – $138,000 per year. The role is bonus eligible.
