Job Overview Medical Laboratory Technician I responsible for performing, evaluating, and reporting technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens for diagnosis and treatment of disease under the direction of a licensed Medical Technologist. Must follow established procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with professional standards of practice. Key Responsibilities Perform accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory according to established protocols and procedures. Report test results in a timely manner in accordance with laboratory protocols. Follow procedures for laboratory quality control and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and policies. Effectively manage resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments, and equipment. Plan work and complete job responsibilities efficiently and productively. Perform other job functions as assigned or requested. Education and Training Requirements Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology. Experience Requirements No prior work experience required. Licenses and Certifications Required: Medical Laboratory Technician ASCP. Preferred: Medical Laboratory Technician – Ranked – Tennessee Department of Health – Medical Laboratory Board. Preferred: AAB Medical Laboratory Technician – American Association of Bioanalysts. Preferred: Medical Laboratory Technician AMT – American Medical Technologists. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Basic knowledge of laboratory information systems. Effective communication with internal and external customers. Ability to organize tasks and projects, work independently, and complete tasks without close supervision. Physical Demands Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. Exert up to 50 lbs occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently. Requires close visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision. Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
