TITLE : Billing Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Patient Financial Services

STATUS : Full Time (40 hours per week)

HOURS : Day Shift. Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy

ROLE/POSITION DEFINITION: This position entails answering the telephone promptly and courteously; obtain and verify patient and guarantor demographic information; obtain and verify patient’s insurance information including co-pays; process patient payments; payment posting; data entry for claims; patient refunds; contract billing accounts; patient collection letters; works with collection aging on collection files, reporting payments and updates on accounts; complete forms as appropriate; receive and answer charge/billing related inquiries. Provides clerical, secretarial and receptionist support and other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A. Education/Experience

1. High School Graduate or equivalency, required.
2. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills required; ability to deal with difficult situations and customers
3. Ability to perform simple arithmetic
4. Ability to type and spell accurately
5. Previous experience working with general public, required.
6. Computer skills required.
7. Previous experience in medical professional billing, coding, insurance verification, required.

2. Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committees as requested.

4. Ability to promote and adapt to change in order to remain current with standards of practice and services in the office setting.
5. Evidence of a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty and positive attitude.
6. Knowledge and ability to learn the safe use of various office equipment.
