Research Professor 
Salary Range: $150,000 - $220,000 per year

The University of Chicago's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology together with the Lindau Laboratory seeks a Research Professor whose primary activity will be to lead and collaborate on research projects that advance the lab’s scientific portfolio. The appointee will develop an independent research program aligned with the lab’s mission, and contribute to a fast-paced, vibrant, and team-based research environment.

The Lindau Lab is a multidisciplinary research group dedicated to understanding how social and sexual factors shape health across the life course, with a particular focus on women, their partners, and understudied populations. The lab utilizes quantitative and qualitative methods to conduct experimental and observational studies. Researchers’ expertise includes clinical trials, health services research methods, measurement development, biosocial survey methods, clinical and population epidemiology, biomedical anthropology, implementation science, systems science, and community-engaged approaches. The appointee’s key responsibilities will include leading and conducting research focused on social and sexual factors and their influence on health outcomes and iatrogenesis and its impact on social and sexual functioning across the life course. The appointee will be expected to develop, implement, and sustain an externally funded research program and to serve as co-investigator and key personnel on federally funded (e.g., NIH, PCORI, DOD), foundation and other research grants. Further responsibilities will include mentoring and teaching trainees at multiple levels (high school, undergraduate, master’s, medical, PhD, and junior faculty), supporting their scientific, professional, and career development, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the university and partner institutions. Responsibilities also include energetic dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and engagement especially with communities contributing to and standing to benefit from the research. 

Compensation is dependent upon qualifications and experience. This position is benefits eligible. Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a PhD in epidemiology or a closely related field (e.g., public health, population health, health services research, biostatistics, or similar disciplines), 2) have demonstrated expertise in clinical and population-based research with women and children, including design and successful conduct of randomized controlled trials, deep expertise in use of EMR-derived and clinical warehouse data, biosocial research and measure development, 3) have documented experience as key contributor to successful applications for federal grant funding and as co-investigator and key personnel on NIH, PCORI, and/or other federally funded research grants, and 4) have prior experience teaching and mentoring trainees across the educational spectrum (high school, undergraduate, master’s, medical, PhD, and junior faculty levels).

We especially welcome applicants with a proven track record of success conceptualizing and writing federally funded research proposals (e.g., NIH, PCORI, CMMI, CDC) and of developing and managing a team of research analysts applying a wide range of methods (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, implementation science). We also value active, enduring, and meaningful participation with relevant national research organizations and a record of collaborative, multidisciplinary research. Additionally, we welcome applicants with a strong first and senior author publication record in relevant fields and experience working respectfully and productively with a wide range of collaborators and populations.
