EPO manages and supports 28 million gross square feet across 235+ buildings and associated infrastructure systems, encompassing academic, research, clinical, residential, administrative, and support facilities across the university’s campuses and operations. Our teams provide strategic leadership and operational expertise in facility management, infrastructure services, capital project delivery, real estate operations, planning, sustainability, engineering, maintenance, environmental services, public safety support, and enterprise operational services. For additional information and to hear directly from members of our team, please visit: Serves as an unarmed, back-up/assistant to Response Officer II or Lead Officer when responding to life safety and protection of property, and emergency and non-emergency incidents on campus. Includes rendering emergency medical assistance or general first aid. Enforces University policy/procedures and criminal law. May be assigned to vehicle or foot patrol, as part of a unified team. Must be prepared to deal with a variety of complex and ever-changing situations. Needs to be able to utilize a variety of tools and techniques to resolve the situations and accurately and thoroughly record information for the official University record.# **Job Description****Primary Duties & Responsibilities:*** Responds or reacts as a team member to emergency and non-emergency incidents (medical, law enforcement, injury/accident, et al) on campus. Takes action, or makes notes for follow-up, of any safety and security issues. Provides Emergency Management support during larger-scale incidents. When not on assignment, patrols the University properties.* Receives/compiles information for incident reports and conducts initial and follow-up investigations, as assigned, under the direction of an RO II or Lead Officer.* Conducts building checks which include checking access control devices, door locks and proactively looking for any possible safety or security hazard. Uses problem-solving skills to resolve issues found during building checks.* Provides necessary follow-up (transports to the medical facility, notifies proper authorities, and undertakes any other necessary coordination) for faculty, staff, students, and visitors after immediate resolution of an incident.* Assists Medical Center personnel and visitors with directions and provides escorts when requested. Partners with customers in assigned geographical areas and assists them in resolving multi-department issues.* May serve as an instructor for skills training and certifications.* Takes possession of found property, attempting to locate the owner, and securing property according to established procedure.* Enforces parking regulations and provides support to the Transportation Office as needed.* Performs other duties as assigned. **Working Conditions:**Job Location:* Normal office environment.* Requires extensive safety training.* Exposure to blood-borne pathogens.* Exposure to chemicals.* Requires protective devices.* Exposure to animals.* Patient care setting.* Dust, dirt, grease, or other disagreeable elements.* Alternative work schedule as a regular part of the job (on-call, shifts, evening, weekends).Physical Effort:* Typically sitting at a desk or table.* Typically standing or walking.* Typically running or climbing.* Occasional lifting (25 – 50 lbs.)* Using tools requiring high dexterity* Typically bending, crouching, and stooping.* Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement.* Ability to move to on and off-campus locations. More than one credential, certification or professional license may be required depending on the role.St. Louis Metropolitan Security License - St. Louis City/St. Louis County, St. Louis Metropolitan Security License - within 30 days of hire - St. Louis City/St. Louis County**Work Experience:**Officer In An Academic Or Other Professional Environment (1 Year)**Skills:**Not Applicable**Driver's License:**A Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license and a good driving record are required for this position.# **More About This Job****Required Qualifications:*** Ability to obtain and maintain a St. Louis Metropolitan Security License within 30 days of hire.* Must obtain and maintain a Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver’s license within 30 days of hire.* Obtain and maintain certification for Taser, OC Spray, Collapsible Baton, and Handcuffs.* Applicants with a security license may already have these endorsements listed on their license and will be required to transfer to WashU.* We have trainers who will assist those who need to get a specific endorsement for Private Security.* If no previous departmental psychological assessment has been completed by the individual, a psychological assessment will be necessary for this position.# **Preferred Qualifications****Education:**Bachelor's degree - Criminal Justice**Certifications****/Professional Licenses****:**Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) - CIT International, Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) - Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services**Work Experience:**Security Officer In A Professional Security Organization (2 Years)**Skills:**Computer Literacy, Customer Service, Handcuffing, Law Enforcement Training, Military Training, Oral Communications, Organizational Commitment, Professional Integrity, Strive for Excellence, Teamwork, Working Independently, Written Communication# **Grade**G07-H# **Salary Range**$19.29 - $29.91 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
