Machinist Position at General Dynamics Mission Systems

Technical certificate plus two years or equivalent experience is required. Clearance requirements include a U.S. Government security investigation and eligibility for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.

Responsibilities for this position include creating technologies, products, and services that help keep the nation safe. You will work with advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, AR/VR, Cloud Native, and Quantum Physics to solve customers' missions in cyber, RF, undersea, interstellar, and more. As a Machinist for General Dynamics Mission Systems Precision Structures & Optics located in Cullman, AL, you'll be a member of a cross-functional team responsible for manufacturing Beryllium products for use in the most demanding applications across the aerospace, defense, and nuclear industries.

• Experience in the manufacture of tight tolerance, complex geometry precision products, particularly within an aerospace or medical component machine shop
• Ability to work from blueprints, advanced drawings, process sheets, and sketches to perform machining operations with precision, quality, and safety
• Analytical and problem-solving skills; able to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a quick, effective manner

Representative duties include:

• Setting up and operating CNC machines to produce precision parts
• Selecting and installing appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machine attachments
• Loading programs into CNC machines and making necessary code edits
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and GD&T
• Understanding tolerances, material specs, and critical dimensions
• Modifying existing CNC programs using G-Code
• Recommending tooling and programming improvements to increase efficiency and reduce scrap
• Following all safety procedures and using PPE
• Working with engineers, quality inspectors, and supervisors to solve machining issues
• Communicating effectively during shift handovers and team meetings
• Contributing to continuous improvement efforts

Salary Note

Combined Salary Range

USD $29.58 - USD $32.44 /Hr.
