Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer develops, implements, and continuously improves manufacturing processes for battery module and pack assembly operations. This role ensures that production processes are safe, efficient, repeatable, and aligned with engineering intent, supporting facility launch, production ramp-up, and long-term scalability in a rapidly growing environment.
Responsibilities

• Develop and document end-to-end manufacturing processes for battery module assembly and battery pack assembly, ensuring robust and scalable production.
• Define process flow, work content, and sequencing to meet quality requirements, throughput and takt-time targets, and safety and ergonomic standards.
• Create and maintain detailed work instructions, visual aids, and standard work documentation that accurately reflect engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), current revisions, and approved changes.
• Train production staff on new or updated processes to ensure consistent execution and adherence to standard work.
• Specify, install, and support assembly tools, fixtures, test and inspection equipment, and material handling aids required for battery module and pack assembly.
• Support commissioning and validation of production equipment to confirm performance, reliability, and compliance with process requirements.
• Provide line support during initial production launch, volume ramp-up, and introduction of new products or variants, acting as a first responder for process-related issues, bottlenecks, or downtime.
• Implement corrective actions to stabilize production and improve process reliability when issues arise on the manufacturing line.
• Define and support in-process quality checks, error-proofing (poka-yoke), and process capability and control plans to maintain high product quality.
• Partner with quality teams to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for process and product issues.
• Support engineering change management by assessing manufacturability impacts, updating processes and work instructions, and ensuring changes are effectively implemented in production.
• Support new product introduction (NPI) by preparing production processes, participating in pilot builds, and ensuring a smooth transition from engineering to full-scale production.
• Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield improvement, cycle time reduction, labor efficiency, and reduction of scrap and rework.
• Apply lean manufacturing principles to improve flow, eliminate waste, and enhance overall productivity on the assembly lines.
• Ensure manufacturing processes comply with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements and safe work practices.
• Identify and mitigate ergonomic and safety risks in assembly operations and material handling activities to promote a safe working environment.
• Maintain accurate documentation for process definitions, equipment settings, and change history to support traceability and ongoing process control.
• Track and report key process metrics to support operational decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• At least 2 years of manufacturing engineering experience within an electro-mechanical assembly environment.
• Hands-on experience using multimeters and oscilloscopes in a production or engineering setting.
• Strong understanding of electrical isolation concepts and their application in battery module and pack assembly.
• Proven experience developing and building out new production lines or processes, such as new product launches and/or new facility start-ups.
• Demonstrated capability in manufacturing engineering, including process development, process flow design, and work instruction creation.
• Experience supporting product launch activities and ramping production from pilot to volume manufacturing.
• Ability to create clear, detailed work instructions and standard work documentation aligned with engineering drawings and BOMs.
• Knowledge of process control, in-process quality checks, and error-proofing (poka-yoke) techniques.
• Ability to support root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) in collaboration with quality teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience applying Six Sigma methodologies to improve process capability and reduce variation.
• Experience in lean manufacturing principles to enhance flow, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
• Familiarity with electromechanical assembly processes, particularly in battery modules and packs.
• Experience with process flow mapping and line balancing to meet takt-time and throughput targets.
• Ability to support equipment specification, installation, commissioning, and validation for assembly and test operations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset focused on yield, cycle time, and cost reduction.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment where processes and facilities are evolving.
• Effective communication skills for training production staff and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Adaptability and willingness to support multiple facilities as needed.

Work Environment
This role is primarily based in a growing manufacturing plant in Mason, Ohio, currently a small facility that is actively expanding its workforce and production capabilities. The Manufacturing Engineer will be among the first engineering professionals responsible for establishing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes and standards, offering significant influence over how the operation develops. The position involves occasional travel to a facility in Columbus, Ohio, for a few days at a time to support processes and coordination between sites. The environment focuses on battery module and pack assembly using electromechanical equipment, test instruments such as multimeters and oscilloscopes, and production tools, fixtures, and material handling aids. The work setting emphasizes safety, ergonomics, and adherence to EHS requirements, with a culture that values continuous improvement, innovation, and professional growth in a start-up-like atmosphere.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mason, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $50.48/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
