We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support payroll and related financial operations for a government organization. This contract position with potential for long-term placement is ideal for someone who can manage end-to-end payroll activities with accuracy, maintain organized records, and help ensure compliance with applicable regulations. The role also partners with accounting functions to assist with reconciliations, reporting, and employee payroll support.

Responsibilities:
• Process full-cycle payroll accurately and on schedule for a large employee population, ensuring earnings, deductions, and adjustments are entered correctly.
• Maintain payroll files and supporting documentation in a well-organized manner to promote accuracy, confidentiality, and audit readiness.
• Reconcile payroll-related accounts and investigate discrepancies between payroll records, benefit deductions, and general ledger data.
• Prepare payroll tax filings and related reporting while helping ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
• Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, taxes, and time-related issues in a timely and thorough manner.
• Support accounting and finance activities by providing payroll data, reports, and documentation needed for month-end and other financial processes.
• Assist with audits by gathering requested payroll records, validating information, and explaining payroll transactions when needed.
• Coordinate benefit and other payroll deductions to confirm they are applied accurately and reflected properly in payroll records.• Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience processing payroll in a detail-focused environment.
• Working knowledge of payroll tax requirements and core accounting principles.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience handling full-cycle payroll with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with multi-state payroll processes is preferred.
• Experience with ADP Workforce Now is beneficial.
• Exposure to Munis software is preferred.
