Campus Police Officer
As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a fulltime Campus Police Officer to promote Marian University's Catholic mission and identity by guarding the peace, tranquility and serenity of the University while attempting to ensure justice and maintain the dignity of the individuals. The Campus Police Officer is part of the Campus Police Department pursuant to Indiana Code, Title 21, Article 39, Chapter 4.0 to 4.7. The Campus Police Officer has general police powers, and has the same common law and statutory powers, privileges and immunities as sheriffs and constables.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
- The Campus Police Officer is responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws serving to protect life, primarily, and property secondarily.
- Conduct routine and preventative patrols of campus; monitor buildings, grounds, and facilities; maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors (25%).
- Respond to calls for service, emergencies, disturbances, accidents, and other situations requiring police assistance; protect life and property and provide appropriate assistance (20%).
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws; investigate reported crimes and incidents; gather information and evidence; document findings and take appropriate enforcement action (20%).
- Enforce Marian University policies, rules, parking requirements, and vehicle/traffic regulations; help maintain order and preserve the safety and well-being of the campus community (15%).
- Interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and other members of the University community; provide assistance while maintaining individual dignity, fairness, and respect (10%).
- Participate in or conduct educational programs and activities related to personal safety, security, emergency preparedness, and crime prevention (10%).
- Other duties as assigned

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- The new hire must successfully complete the 16-week Indiana Law Enforcement Academy training.
- Must maintain certification, attend a minimum of 24 hours annual in-service training, and the officer must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
