Construction Manager

Dredge America is a heavy marine construction company that specializes in portable hydraulic dredging nationwide. The Construction Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing dredging construction activities from project mobilization through completion working to directly support the Vice President of Operations. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and in compliance with contractual, environmental and regulatory requirements. Primary Role: The Construction Manager’s primary focus is on providing administrative support to the VP of Operations to ensure connectivity between the field and the office. Below is a list of the primary duties that will be covered under this role. Responsibilities: Review projects daily, recognize issues and proactively solve problems. Complete and email out rotation schedule weekly. Review and approve employee hours weekly. Attend Monday morning operations meetings. Coordinate equipment logistics with the shop through onsite operations. This includes project management responsibilities, client communications and crew direction. Assist in managing project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation. Ensure compliance with project specifications, contract requirements and quality standards. Enforce company safety programs and regulatory requirements. Coordinate with outside vendors, subcontractors, inspectors, etc. Review and approve daily reports, production logs and progress documentation. Identify and mitigate construction risks, operational issues, and schedule impacts. Communicate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal personnel. Support change order development, claims documentation and cost control efforts. Participate in pre-construction planning, constructability reviews and lessons-learned meetings. Assist in the documentation of field personnel performance based issues. Daily tasks for this role may change day to day depending on critical time-sensitive tasks that may arise without warning. Communication within the management team will be vital in this role. Flexibility and adaptability will be key to succeed in this position. Maintain a balance between working in the office and regularly working on project sites, approximately 50% office and 50% field. Additional work hours, travel, and weekend work will be required at times for this position. After-hour phone calls will be required. May require extended time on marine vessels and construction sites with exposure to varying weather conditions and marine environments. Rotational schedules or extended project assignments may be required. Education: HS diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent field experience). Ideally 5 years’ experience working in the dredging industry or heavy construction, with at least 2 years’ in a supervisory or management role. Training in project management and supervisory skills. Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Organization and the ability to multitask to complete a wide variety of tasks. Must be highly organized and able to work independently. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate repair records and reports. Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions. Ability to work effectively and establish good working relationships with others. Ability to work effectively with the general public. Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with all employees. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of working on and around heavy equipment. Experience and knowledge in the methods, materials and tools used on jobsites. Ability to read and meet project budgets. Basic computer skills with Word, Excel and Outlook. Strong knowledge of dredging methods, marine equipment and production management. Experience managing field crews, marine assets and subcontractors. Working knowledge of environmental compliance and dredging permits. Other: Physically must be able to work in the field and lift at least 50 lbs. Ability to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods, in all types of weather, and under various working conditions. Some travel is required. Work special hours as required. This may include overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays. Valid driver’s license and clear driving record. Comfortable around water. Proposed Work Schedule: While in the office, the schedule would be Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. While in the field, the schedule would be 7 days/week, 12 hours/day. 50% of the time will be spent in the field and 50% in the office.
