Senior Patient Access Specialist Position: Senior Patient Access Specialist at Mercy – Lorain Hospital, Lorain, OH. Salary: $18.65 – $19.90 per hour. Onsite, full‑time schedule: 8:00am–4:30pm with weekend rotation and on‑call duties. Responsibilities Perform admitting duties for all patients admitted to the hospital. Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical‑necessity and compliance checks, and process all related documentation. Collect insurance information, receive and process physician orders, and use overlay tools. Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter‑office calls. Provide compassionate and excellent customer service in all interactions. Ensure account accuracy and meet assigned point‑of‑service goals. Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems; conduct audits and deliver statistical data to leadership. Pre‑register patient accounts, obtain demographics and insurance details, and collect point‑of‑service collections and past‑due balances, including payment plans. Explain compliance for treatment forms, obtain necessary signatures, and distribute patient education documents. Review eligibility responses in the insurance verification system, select appropriate insurance plan codes, and enter benefit data to support POS collections and billing. Screen for medical necessity using ABN software, inform Medicare patients of possible non‑payment, and distribute ABN forms as required. Distribute and document other designated forms and pamphlets. Qualifications Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) and/or Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) – certification provided by the company. 2–3 years of experience in patient access or a leadership role within a revenue cycle environment. Associate’s degree (preferred) in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field. Strong understanding of the revenue cycle, including admission, billing, payments and denials. Knowledge of the patient insurance process for authorizations and benefits verification. Familiarity with health insurance requirements and medical terminology, CPT, or procedure codes. Openness to innovation, including the use of AI, to improve processes and the patient/client experience. Benefits Hourly pay ranging from $18.65 to $19.90.
