The Echo/PV Lab Assistant is responsible to maintain patient flow, department productivity, and ensure the timely delivery of diagnostic inpatient and outpatient testing through continuous communication to inpatient units, ancillary departments, and technical staff. Performs patient care duties, including but not limited to, room prep, patient transport, and assisting technical staff during the exam. Performs various clerical duties to maintain efficient day-to-day operations. Participates actively in all quality improvement processes. Permitted to change patient from portable O2 to wall O2.
Essential Job Functions- maintains the daily patient schedule within the Echo/PV Lab utilizing knowledge of individual staff capabilities, prioritization of patient exams, and knowledge of ultrasound equipment available. Communicates frequently with the inpatient units and other ancillary departments to ensure timely delivery of testing. Proficient with the EMR and both radiology and cardiology PACS systems.
- assists technician with patient exam by providing reports of patients’ prior Echo/vascular ultrasound, sets up the exam room, transports patients from the holding area, and assists with positioning of patient during the exam.
- assists with the exam schedules by utilizing the scheduling module to adjust/modify according to patient/department need. Confirms patient appointments, provides exam instructions, and answers patient questions, as needed.
- provides department clerical support by submitting IT/maintenance work orders, maintains copies of necessary documents utilized by technicians for each exam, assists staff in recording exams in Expanse and provides DVD copies of imaging at the request of Medical Records.
- assists in the collection of data to help with department quality improvement processes.

- High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
- Six (6) months of experience in a healthcare field.
- Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
- Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
- One (1) year’s experience in an Imaging Department.
- Prior experience working within an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Knowledgeable in Medical Terminology.
- Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system.
- Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
- Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
Effective March 2020 or during pandemic: goggles, face shield and mask are required according to CDC guidelines
Physical Demands
When lift requirement is in excess of 50#, lift assistance (2 person) and/or transfer device is required.
