PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for on-site leadership of campus custodial operations. Establish and follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED Valid Texas driver’s license Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to understand and execute detailed written or oral instructions Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures Ability to perform minor repairs Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: Three years’ experience in custodial services

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Custodial Management

1. Assign work to campus custodians and oversee completion according to district standards; provide training as needed.
2. Work cooperatively with principals and facilities managers to maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
3. Establish and oversee work schedules and procedures for routine custodial care and special projects.
4. Arrange for substitute custodians as needed.
5. Provide training and orientation related to cleaning procedures and safe use of chemicals and equipment.
6. Coordinate moving and delivery of furniture, equipment, and materials.
7. Direct setup of facilities for special events.

Cleaning

1. Implement and maintain cleaning schedules including floors, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
2. Maintain cleanliness of building and grounds, including sidewalks, parking lots, and play areas.
3. Comply with procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
4. Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order as needed.

Maintenance and Repair

1. Perform minor repairs and report major repair needs to supervisor.
2. Assist with facility setup and movement of furniture and equipment.
3. Schedule and supervise summer custodial projects.

Safety

1. Open and close building daily and ensure security procedures are followed.
2. Check exit doors and panic hardware to ensure proper operation.
3. Inspect equipment for safety and efficiency.
4. Follow established safety procedures, including proper lifting and equipment use.
5. Correct unsafe conditions or report to supervisor.
6. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Other

1. Assist in preparation of department budget.
2. Supervise, train, and evaluate custodial staff and make recommendations regarding employment actions.
3. Maintain reports, records, and payroll-related documentation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor work, assign duties, and evaluate performance of campus custodians. MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Tools/Equipment Used: Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum, shampooer, lawn equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent walking, climbing, reaching, grasping, and overhead movement. Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds or more) on a regular basis. Environment: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, chemicals, and uneven surfaces; irregular hours may be required. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
