Position Summary:

This position is for instructors interested in group classes in AM and/or PM at Mattoon or Toledo location , provides excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Employee Benefits

YMCA Usage - Facility usage is free for all employees. Immediate family members may use the YMCA at a discounted monthly price. Immediate family members are as follows: spouse, domestic partner, dependent children and other dependents living within the same household.

Program Fees- Except for certain exceptions, program fees will be reduced by 25% for all employees and their immediate family. * While not working, an employee of the Y can use the child watch service for free up to a 2 hour daily limit. While working, child watch is free and unlimited.

Essential Functions:

  1. Leads group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  2. Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes.
  3. Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  4. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  5. Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  6. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Child Abuse Prevention Reponsibilites

1. Know and follow policies related to boundaries with youth.

2. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activitie and supervising youth.

3. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

4. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  1. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED
  2. National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification preferred.
  3. Certification in areas of expertise.
  4. Completion of the following eLearning courses within 60 days of hire:
  5. Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y
  6. Foundations of Listen First
  7. Principles of Member Health & Wellness
  8. Group Exercise at the Y
  9. At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
  10. Completion of all required safety trainings.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to conduct classes and activities relating to fitness.
  2. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
