Van/Para Transit Driver - Kaktovik

Summary or Purpose Operate transit vehicles to safely transport passengers over specified routes according to time schedule. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate transit vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with traffic laws, Borough policy, procedures, and state and local regulations. Assist physically challenged passengers with entry and exit from vehicle; assist clients with packages, parcels, and deliveries as needed; deliver meals to the homebound. Assist passengers with questions concerning routes, transfer points, and street locations. Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort. Complete required paperwork, including special services provided. Inspect the bus; check gas, oil, and water before departure and as necessary for safe operations and preventive maintenance. Assist mechanics with inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of vehicles. Comply with all safety rules and regulations. Maintain politeness and courtesy to the public. Assist with translations and paperwork for elders. Obtain and maintain wheelchair tie‑down training required by the Department of Transportation. In the event of an emergency, follow responsibilities as outlined in North Slope Borough and program policies and procedures and the CEMP manual. Respect clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements. Protect self, co‑workers, and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood‑borne and/or airborne diseases. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures. Skill in utilizing personal computers and a variety of software applications. Education, Experience, Certifications, and Licenses Required High school graduate or G.E.D., or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience. One year of van driving or vehicle maintenance work experience. Minimum age of 21 years. Obtain CPR/First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire. Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria. Pass a criminal history background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit. Ability to push, pull, lift, and assist disabled clients. Ability to communicate effectively with the elderly. Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
