Irrigation Technician

MTI is seeking an experienced Irrigation Technician to troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and support irrigation control systems for golf courses and commercial customers. This role combines technical expertise, customer service, and field-based problem solving to ensure irrigation systems operate efficiently and reliably.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair irrigation control systems, controllers, communication networks, and low-voltage systems.
• Perform onsite inspections, service calls, system audits, and performance evaluations.
• Identify root causes of irrigation system issues and implement effective solutions.
• Provide technical support to customers both remotely and in the field.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Use diagnostic equipment such as multimeters and testing tools to evaluate system performance.
• Assist customers with controller programming, communication troubleshooting, and system optimization.
• Support the installation, startup, testing, and commissioning of irrigation control systems.
• Partner with golf course superintendents, grounds managers, contractors, and other irrigation professionals to resolve technical issues.
• Provide technical expertise and field support to the Irrigation Sales team during customer visits and project evaluations.
• Conduct site assessments and make recommendations for system improvements, upgrades, repairs, and water management solutions.
• Educate customers on best practices, system maintenance, and available technology solutions.
• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and customer documentation.
• Prioritize and manage multiple service requests while ensuring timely response and resolution.
• Stay current on irrigation technologies, software platforms, control systems, and manufacturer products.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships through responsive service and professional communication.
• Travel throughout the assigned territory to support customers and provide onsite technical assistance.
• Assist with seasonal system startup, shutdown, and preventive maintenance programs.
• Collaborate with internal teams to improve customer satisfaction, retention, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred.
• 2+ years of experience with irrigation systems, controls, or related technologies preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting irrigation controllers and low-voltage systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and use diagnostic tools.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the assigned territory.
