The unit serves patients located within the Emergency Department who are waiting for an inpatient bed. Patients may have any medical or surgical adult diagnosis. Travelers may encounter PCU level patients. Travelers are expected to take MS/Tele cases and may need to float to Emergency Department and MedSurg areas as required. Ratios are targeted at 1:6 for MS/Tele or 1:4 for PCU level patients. Every other weekend work is required. Contract staff may be expected to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters. This is a fast-paced environment with high acuity patients. All candidates must undergo EKG testing prior to the start of the position. Previous charge experience is preferred. Experience with charting systems is also preferred. Candidates must be flexible with floating requirements within or near the facility. Travel pairs are allowed, provided they are assigned to different units. Candidates are expected to work two of three major holidays. All time-off requests must be pre-approved and cannot be requested after signing. The position requires the use of standard medical equipment, such as cardiac monitors and IV pumps. Documentation and medication systems include common hospital software. This role demands excellent skills in managing diverse and complex patient needs.
