Research Engineer - Intermediate ProfessionalThe Systems for Hybrid - Additive Process Engineering Lab (SHAPE Lab) lead by Dr. Guha Manogharan seeks candidates for the role of Research Engineer - Intermediate Professional. The mission of the SHAPE Lab is to advance Additive Manufacturing: Design, Material Development and Biomedical Applications; Hybrid Manufacturing; Sand-Printing for Metal Casting. You can read more information on the SHAPE Lab at Research Engineer supports research and development activities within additive hybrid manufacturing, specifically with hands-on machine tool integration with mobile robots and foundry operations through the application of known engineering principles and practices in order to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processes.Collaborate with project leadership with the development of digital sensors enabled foundry pilot demonstration facility.Collaborate with engineering staff and senior engineering technologists in developing, defining, and/or deriving requirements to support the design, deployment, testing and validation of the additive hybrid technologies.Develop 3D Sand-Printing, Casting, Quality Control, and Testing protocols.Prepare, present and document project reports and presentations, and interface with sponsors and external collaborators.Guide and provide input for technical work activities performed by engineering support staff and/or less experienced engineering technologistsResearch, evaluate, and recommend new engineering products and tooling to support the development of project systemsPerform design, development, fabrication, installation, and use of custom electrical, mechanical, and software subsystemsPrepare test plans, procedures, reports, and other forms of formal documentationDevelop specialized electrical, mechanical, and/or software tools to support testing of complex electromechanical systemsUtilize computer aided design software to develop electrical, mechanical, and/or software productsCollaborate with a broad range of interoffice organizations to accomplish all phases of project developmentConduct tests, provide results, address issues, and recommend modifications related to electrical, mechanical, or software subsystemsWithin specific engineering discipline, maintain an up-to-date knowledge of and work towards developing an advanced knowledge of design and analysis tools, test and measurement equipment, languages, and available products and servicesMinimum Education, Work Experience & Required CertificationsBachelor's Degree - Engineering or Science; 1+ years of relevant experience; Required Certifications: NonePreferred Qualifications:Background in Metallurgical in carbon and alloy steels, nickel-based alloys and controlled expansion alloysDemonstrated Team player but able to work independentlyDemonstrated ability to work on large-scale projectsDemonstrated good oral and written communicationThe work location will be fully on-site at University Park.Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
