Project Manager - HVAC Refrigeration

Project Manager – HVAC Refrigeration Position Purpose: The Project Manager will lead the execution of construction and remodel projects within the supermarket sector, overseeing capital expenditure planning, facilities systems management, and strict project expense control to ensure on‑time, on‑budget completion to the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance. Primary Responsibilities Plan, schedule and execute supermarket construction projects, focusing on integration of refrigeration, HVAC, and control systems. Manage installation and commissioning of refrigeration systems, including CO2, glycol, and other natural refrigerants. Supervise HVAC and advanced building control system installation to optimize energy efficiency and operational performance. Lead capital expenditure planning and resource allocation for refrigeration, HVAC, and facilities projects. Ensure proper implementation and maintenance of supermarket facilities systems. Prepare and manage project budgets, controlling costs and maximizing ROI. Implement cost management strategies and track expenditures to keep projects within budget. Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors, manage contracts and procurement processes. Act as primary client liaison, maintaining consistent communication to exceed expectations. Identify and mitigate risks, develop contingency plans. Ensure compliance with local building codes, health and safety regulations, and refrigerant regulations. Oversee quality assurance, ensuring systems meet or exceed design specifications and industry standards. Maintain detailed documentation: CapEx plans, progress reports, cost analyses, equipment specifications, and as‑built records. Qualifications 5+ years of project management experience in construction or engineering, with significant experience in supermarket refrigeration, HVAC and control systems. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience). Experience with supermarket HVAC systems, electrical infrastructure and control systems (e.g., Danfoss, Emerson) including CO2, glycol, and transcritical refrigerants. Strong knowledge of natural refrigerants and energy‑efficient technologies. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, CMiC) and cost‑tracking tools. PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred. Demonstrated leadership and ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage complex projects. Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with focus on innovative solutions within budget and time constraints. Work Environment Primarily field‑based with regular site visits to supermarkets under construction. 75% travel required across Greater Philadelphia area and throughout middle Pennsylvania.
