Chemical Dependency Counselor (LADC)

Position Summary The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to clients dealing with chemical health issues to better manage and reduce the harm of associated behaviors. Responsibilities include performing duties within established guidelines, screening clients, and maintaining program compliance with internal and external contacts. The role is scheduled during standard daytime business hours, may require occasional local travel within the Minneapolis area, and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. This position is eligible for a $3,000 hiring bonus. Some licensure supervision for clinical social work and clinical counseling is available upon request. Essential Job Functions Provide individual sessions with chemically‑dependent clients (20%) Conduct client interviews to screen substance use and program suitability. Provide chemical health assessment and relapse prevention planning services consistent with individual treatment plans. Offer support services to clients experiencing urges and/or relapse. Develop and provide assessment, service planning, and relapse prevention tools. Assist with intervention and referrals related to other addictions, including gambling and nicotine addiction. Track client substance use histories, interventions, and discharges. Maintain awareness of client concerns and functioning. Encourage client active involvement in service planning and problem‑solving regarding chemical health. Assist with discharge/transition planning for clients with substance use disorders. Facilitate chemical dependency groups at IRTS program, Resource Center, Jobs Training Program and Transition Lodge (20%) Develop and facilitate chemical health support groups. Maintain good rapport and flexibility while working with assigned clients. Collaborate with primary staff of chemically dependent clients (20%) Communicate with appropriate staff regarding client functioning; perform crisis intervention and consultation. Consult with and train other staff on addressing chemical health concerns. Participate in supervision with direct supervisor and/or Clinical Director. Collaborate with other staff in treatment planning for clients in the IRTS program, Jobs Training Program, and other program clients receiving chemical health services. Participate in general staff and program team meetings as scheduled. Conduct room, belonging, and property searches. Enroll clients with laboratory, assess and monitor UAs across varying programs. Develop and monitor substance use policies. Build rapport with clients participating in various programs (15%) Build and sustain constructive relationships with clients across multiple programs. Prepare appropriate documentation and paperwork (10%) Complete ARMHS service records as scheduled and applicable. Complete IRTS documentation as scheduled. Complete progress notes. Provide leadership coverage for IRTS facility, as needed (5%) Provide weekend crisis on‑call rotation with licensed/supervisory staff. Provide on‑call clinical consultation. Refer clients to chemical health resources outside of Tasks as appropriate (10%) Submit referrals and coordinate treatment services for clients across the various programs. Regular use of standard office equipment such as computer, telephone, copier, and printer is required, together with internal databases and Microsoft Office applications. Direct Reports None Qualifications Education and Experience – Required Mental Health Practitioner status as defined by the Department of Human Services and Minnesota Statute 245.462. LADC and at least two years of related work experience with adults with substance use disorder. Valid driver’s license and an insured vehicle. Education and Experience – Preferred At least one year of experience with adults with serious and persistent mental illness. Fluent in a non‑English language or competent in the culture of an ethnic group represented by 20 % or more of the worker’s recipients. Knowledge Areas Psychology – Human behavior and performance; individual differences; learning and motivation; psychological research and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Therapy and counseling – Principles, methods, procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions. Education and training – Curriculum and training design; teaching and instruction for individuals and groups; measurement of training effects. Language – Language structure, content, meaning, spelling, grammar. Customer and personal service – Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; assessment and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Administration and management – Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership, and coordination. Chemical dependency awareness – Knowledge of current developments and issues in the field of chemical health and addictions. Community resources – Knowledge of community resources and how to use them for client benefit. Skills Active listening – Full attention, understanding, appropriate questioning, no inappropriate interruption. Speaking – Convey information effectively. Critical thinking – Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions. Writing – Communicate effectively in writing appropriate to audience. Reading comprehension – Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work‑related documents. Judgement and decision making – Consider relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
