Position Overview The Safety Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of workplace safety programs to maintain compliance with OSHA requirements, environmental standards, and company policies. This floor-focused role identifies and mitigates hazards, delivers safety training and certifications, conducts incident investigations and root cause analysis, supports audits, maintains compliance records, and partners with leaders and team members to strengthen safety accountability and culture. The position also supports contractor safety, safety performance reporting, and expanding EHS responsibilities. Essential Functions Develop, implement, and improve site-wide safety programs and initiatives to prevent workplace injuries and incidents. Maintain a strong presence on the production floor; inspect work areas, equipment, and processes, identify hazards, and coordinate corrective actions. Develop, coordinate, and deliver safety training and certifications, including LOTO, PPE, hearing conservation, powered industrial trucks, hazard communication, and other OSHA-related topics. Conduct incident and near-miss investigations, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective and preventive action plans. Support internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, customer assessments, and other compliance reviews. Monitor safety metrics and trends; complete required data entry, documentation, reports, and recommendations for leadership. Maintain safety records and compliance systems, including SDS, training records, inspection records, corrective actions, and required regulatory documentation. Oversee contractor safety orientation and support compliance for on-site projects and capital improvements. Partner with supervisors and managers to coach safe work practices, strengthen accountability, and influence positive safety behaviors without direct authority. Take appropriate action when unsafe conditions, behaviors, or regulatory requirements are identified or compromised. Support workers’ compensation and injury-management processes, including documentation and regulatory reporting as assigned. Support broader EHS responsibilities, including environmental tracking, chemical inventory, and related audits. Perform other duties as assigned to support operational safety and EHS initiatives. Minimum Qualifications 1-3+ years of experience in a dedicated safety role; manufacturing preferred. 1-3+ years of experience developing, coordinating, or delivering training programs for employees and supervisors. 1-3+ years of experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety standards, including LOTO, machine guarding, confined space, powered industrial trucks, hazard communication, PPE, and contractor safety. Ability to support regulatory inspections, customer audits, and compliance reviews. Knowledge of workers’ compensation processes, injury management, and regulatory reporting requirements. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Valid driver’s license required. Education, Certifications & Core Competencies Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience, training, and certifications will be considered. Professional safety certifications or training such as OSHA 10/30-Hour, ASP, CSP, CHST, or equivalent are a plus. Strong training and presentation skills with the ability to communicate safety requirements clearly to employees and leadership. Ability to identify systemic risks and recommend practical, sustainable corrective actions. Strong written communication, documentation, recordkeeping, organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through. Ability to build cross-functional relationships, coach others, and drive accountability without direct authority. Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, adapt to changing priorities, and work independently while supporting broader EHS objectives. Professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality. Able to sit or stand for extended periods and regularly work on the production floor. Able to work in hot/warm conditions and moderate-noise environments. Able to work in an environment where peanuts and tree nuts are present. Able to work a flexible schedule to support training and operational requirements. Comfortable with a moderate noise level.
