Overview The Quality Engineer will provide quality guidance and support to Operations, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams within a UL 508A industrial control panel shop. This role plays a critical part in ensuring control panels are built, inspected, and documented in accordance with customer specifications, internal workmanship standards, and applicable code and certification requirements. Working in conjunction with operations and engineering teams, the Quality Engineer develops and maintains processes, process controls, inspection plans, and build documentation to ensure panels are manufactured correctly, safely, and consistently. The Quality Engineer is expected to exercise strong decision‑making authority in support of product quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Ensure procedures are current and followed consistently by all members. Exhibit a high regard for customer satisfaction and supplier partnering. Lead or facilitate Quality and Process Improvement projects. Represent the Quality Department in customer and vendor meetings both on and off site. Participate in new product and process development to ensure industrial control panels are built in accordance with customer requirements, approved drawings, bills of material, and UL 508A requirements. Serve as the lead quality resource for first article panel builds, validating workmanship, component selection, wire identification, torque verification, and documentation controls before release to production. Implement quality improvement projects using proven engineering techniques. Establish appropriate in‑process and final inspection plans for enclosure fabrication, panel assembly, wiring, labeling, and functional verification to assess product quality and compliance. Conduct internal audits and support customer, certification, and compliance audits related to panel build processes, UL 508A procedures, workmanship standards, and documentation accuracy. Work closely with Manufacturing Engineer and Operations on process improvement projects to drive efficiencies, improve safety and reduce overall costs. Investigate customer complaints, shop‑floor nonconformances, and field issues related to control panels, and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence. Conduct data analysis for Customer Returns, Customer Corrective Actions, Customer complaints, and Supplier Corrective Actions. Train and provide guidance to production leads and quality technicians on in‑process and final inspection requirements, control panel workmanship expectations, and verification of labeling and documentation. Using Quality Data, identify cost saving opportunities and work with corresponding functional owners in reducing overall business costs. Assist with trend analysis for audit, customer returns, corrective actions and customer requests and complaints. Ensure that proper inspection requirements are in place based on current and historical inventory problems. Lead internal audits and help ensure compliance with ISO 9001 requirements, UL 508A shop procedures, and internal standards for industrial control panel manufacturing. Take an active role in best practice auditing exercises. Generate action items from audit findings and partner with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to implement corrective actions affecting panel design release, component control, build practices, and final inspection readiness. Maintain records of the nature of non‑conformities during internal audits and of any subsequent actions taken, and ensure involvement of appropriate personnel to address these situations. Quality contact for Customers and Suppliers. Report status of projects and programs to Quality management according to schedules. Develop teams to assist in project development and completion. Investigate suggestions, ideas and concepts from employees, at the direction of Quality management. Participate on cross‑functional teams to ensure the continuous, on‑going improvement of methods, processes, productivity and quality, while reducing costs. Provide technical support to employees and customers regarding quality expectations, panel inspection criteria, and UL and CSA labeling and compliance matters as they apply to industrial control panels. Complete and maintain all required records, files, paperwork and documentation. Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain calibration records and schedules for measuring, inspection, and test equipment used in control panel verification and quality checks. Present quality briefings to new and current employees as required. Qualifications Education and/or Experience: A bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience, preferably in industrial control panel manufacturing, electrical assembly, or a UL 508A panel shop environment. Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations: A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a passport. ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) preferred. Working knowledge of UL 508A requirements and industrial control panel compliance expectations strongly preferred. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical and business information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Applications Skills: Ability to work in a Windows environment and use ERP, quality, and document‑control systems along with standard office applications to manage nonconformances, inspection records, BOM and drawing revisions, and customer or compliance documentation. Travel: Occasionally required to perform work related travel.
