The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work collaboratively with the Athletic Director, Head Athletic Trainer, coaches, school administration, student-athletes, families, and healthcare providers to provide comprehensive athletic training services to Girard College student-athletes.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist with the prevention, evaluation, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses in accordance with professional standards, applicable regulations, and the policies and procedures of Girard College.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will support the overall health and safety of student-athletes by providing appropriate care before, during, and after athletic practices, competitions, and related athletic activities. The position requires sound professional judgment, strong communication skills, confidentiality, and the ability to respond appropriately to athletic injuries and medical emergencies.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in providing athletic training services to Girard College student-athletes.
• Provide athletic training coverage for assigned practices, athletic contests, tournaments, physicals, and other athletic events.
• Assist with the prevention, assessment, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses, including first aid and emergency care.
• Perform proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
• Implement treatment and rehabilitation plans as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer and/or the student's physician.
• Communicate appropriately with student-athletes, coaches, families, physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers regarding student-athlete care.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and properly equipped athletic training room.
• Support the Head Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director with other athletic training responsibilities as assigned.
• Adhere to all applicable Girard College policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association (P.J.A.A.), Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association (M.P.A.A.), Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (P.I.A.A.), and other applicable governing organizations.

Required Skills:

• Strong knowledge of athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care.
• Strong knowledge and application of taping, strapping, bracing, and athletic equipment fitting techniques.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, families, healthcare providers, administrators, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to exercise sound professional judgment while maintaining student confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of adolescent student-athletes.
• Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, walk, lift, carry, and push athletic equipment and medical supplies and assist with the movement or transfer of student-athletes when necessary.

Required Duties:

• Provide athletic training coverage for assigned practices, home athletic contests, designated away contests, tournaments, and off-season workouts.
• Arrive at least one hour prior to assigned practices and athletic contests to prepare for student-athlete participation and provide necessary pre-event care.
• Assist with preseason and scheduled sports physicals.
• Provide appropriate first aid, emergency care, injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services within the scope of professional practice.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, referrals, and other athletic training services.
• Complete or assist with required insurance documentation and claim forms related to athletic injuries, when applicable.
• Communicate injury information, treatment plans, and medical recommendations appropriately with student-athletes, coaches, families, school personnel, physicians, and specialists while maintaining confidentiality.
• Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with maintaining appropriate treatment protocols, standing orders, and return-to-play procedures.
• Assist with monitoring student-athlete medical eligibility and compliance with applicable return-to-play requirements.
• Maintain and organize athletic training supplies, equipment, and treatment areas to ensure they are clean, safe, and properly prepared.
• Follow all applicable bloodborne pathogen, health, safety, infection-control, and emergency-care procedures.
• Attend athletic department or staff meetings as requested and perform other related athletic training duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Head Athletic Trainer.

• The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the Girard College Athletic Department and the assigned athletic seasons.
• Typical hours may include:
• Monday–Friday, approximately 3:00 PM–9:00 PM for scheduled practices and athletic contests.
• Saturday and Sunday hours as needed based on the athletic schedule.
• Coverage for scheduled off-season team workouts, which generally will not exceed three hours.
• The Assistant Athletic Trainer is expected to be on-site at least one hour prior to assigned practices and athletic contests when preparation and student-athlete care require it.
• The Assistant Athletic Trainer is expected to attend all assigned home athletic contests.
• Athletic seasons generally run approximately 8–10 weeks and may extend to approximately 12 weeks when teams participate in postseason competition.
• The specific schedule and number of hours will be determined in coordination with the Head Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director based on the athletic calendar and departmental needs.
• Summer Break:
• The Assistant Athletic Trainer may be required to work during the summer break for scheduled athletic activities, preseason preparations, physicals, camps, workouts, or other athletic department needs.
• The summer schedule will be determined in coordination with the Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer based on the needs of the athletic program.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in athletic training or a related field is required. A minimum of three years of experience in an athletic training setting is preferred. Entry-level candidates with current BOC certification will be considered.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work in an active athletic environment and must be physically capable of providing athletic training services to student-athletes.

The position requires the ability to:

• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, and move for extended periods and travel between athletic facilities, fields, and other campus locations.
• Lift, carry, and push athletic training equipment, medical supplies, coolers, training kits, and other athletic equipment.
• Assist with the movement or transfer of student-athletes of varying heights and weights when necessary.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will have close contact with student-athletes and may be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids. The employee must follow all applicable universal precautions, bloodborne pathogen procedures, and Girard College health and safety policies.

Required Certifications and Clearances:

• Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification as an Athletic Trainer.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Current First Aid certification, as applicable.
• Pass FBI fingerprint/background check.
• Pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.
• Pass Pennsylvania Criminal History Background Check.
• Maintain all required professional certifications and clearances throughout employment.
