Overview Interstate Waste Services is a progressive provider of solid waste and recycling services, primarily serving Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, Connecticut, and a rail‑served landfill in Ohio. We serve residential, industrial, and commercial customers with a focus on quality and safety. Shift Monday‑Friday 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM Salary USD $28.00 – $32.00 per hour Essential Job Summary The A Welder / Fabricator is a senior‑level technician responsible for high‑quality welding, fabrication, and structural rebuilding of steel containers and compactors. The role requires advanced MIG and stick welding skills, custom fabrication, independent complex repair work, and training of entry‑level team members. Essential Job Functions Perform advanced MIG welding, stick welding, and metal fabrication on a variety of container types and compactor components. Rebuild or replace structural frames, bottoms, lids, caster brackets, and mechanical parts using custom‑cut steel. Interpret repair orders and/or sketches to execute precise rebuilds or modifications. Use cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and bending tools to shape and prepare materials. Lead fabrication of specialized equipment or container configurations as needed for customer orders. Perform quality control checks to ensure all welds meet company standards. Mentor and train junior welders and assist with onboarding of new hires. Maintain a clean and organized welding area and perform basic preventative maintenance on shop tools. Track parts used and time spent on custom or complex builds for cost analysis. Collaborate with supervisors. Requirements And Qualifications Minimum 3–5 years of MIG, stick welding, and fabrication experience in industrial or structural repair settings. Proven ability to perform precise welds in various positions and on worn or contaminated metal. Advanced skills using fabrication tools including shears, brakes, torches, and weld jigs. Self‑motivated and capable of leading complex projects with minimal supervision. Strong safety awareness and adherence to PPE and shop protocols. Ability to lift heavy materials, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and operate yard equipment as needed. Work Environment This role involves working in a combination of indoor shop and outdoor yard environments. Frequent exposure to welding heat, welding fumes, grinding dust, metal shavings, and heavy lifting is expected. Welding hood, gloves, respirator (when applicable), safety glasses, steel‑toe boots, and hearing protection are required daily.
