Diagnostics Scheduler Oncology

Job Summary As a Diagnostic Scheduler, you will schedule patient treatments or diagnostic procedures for an assigned area. Your responsibilities include pre‑registration, receiving physician orders, verifying insurance, gathering pre‑authorizations and pre‑certifications, maintaining records, producing statistical reports, and distributing educational materials to patients and families as needed. Core Functions Receive physician orders and seek clarification when necessary. Verify insurance, obtain pre‑authorizations and pre‑certifications. Answer all telephone inquiries related to scheduling. Schedule patients for treatments or diagnostic procedures using computerized scheduling systems. Resolve scheduling conflicts as needed and document all information regarding patient re‑schedules. Enter patient information in the computerized scheduling system, gather additional information, and modify records as needed to keep the database current. Prepare charts and manage files within regulatory requirements. Compile and report statistical data as required by the assigned department. Distribute educational materials to patients and families when necessary. Respond to diverse questions or refer to appropriate clinical staff. Provide administrative support to the assigned unit when required. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge. Two years of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital central scheduling or physician office scheduling setting. Medical terminology proficiency. Excellent organizational skills. Effective human relations and communication skills. Proficiency with commonly used office software and computers; ability to use computerized scheduling systems. Ability to maintain accurate statistical records, gather data, and produce reports. Ability to work with minimal supervision, set priorities, and maintain highly confidential information.
