Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU/Stepdown RN with strong vasoactive drip titration skills for a night shift position requiring NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

ICU stepdown unit with 20 beds and an ADC of 18

Patient ratio of 1:3-4

Patient population includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, post-op surgical patients (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, ortho), and pre/post OB with complications

Treats adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-7:15)

Every other weekend requirement

Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit

No block scheduling; schedule created by nurse manager

36 or 48 hours per week available

Only one pressor drip per patient permitted on the unit; additional pressors require transfer to ICU

Drips managed include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo

Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup used

Unit uses A-lines, BIPAPs, chest tubes, and tracheostomies; no ventilators on unit

Uses Pyxis and Epic systems

Requirements

Active RN license (NC or Compact) required

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required

Experience with arterial line management and titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips required

Experience with PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown and telemetry required

Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Experience with IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, and heparin protocols required

Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management experience required

Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care required

Non-invasive airway management and isolation precautions/PPE experience required

IV start, telemetry, and conscious sedation experience required

Epic charting experience preferred

Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

Provide advanced ICU-level stepdown care including drip titration, telemetry monitoring, and rapid response team support

Participate in hospital orientation during the first week, with availability required for daily classes

Complete required pre-start modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), with annual renewal

Scrubs must be navy, white, or a combination of both

Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays

RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment

First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate

Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose employment history for facility approval

Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission

13-week minimum assignment length, with option for longer contracts
