Job Description Join our Cardiovascular Surgical ICU, a newly renovated 29‑bed unit located in the new critical care tower at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston‑Salem, NC. The CVSU (Cardiovascular Surgical Unit) specializes in providing concentrated care and management for patients with severe cardiac, vascular, and thoracic disorders, focusing on invasive hemodynamic monitoring, cardiovascular surgery implementation of mechanical support, and post‑anesthesia care for cardiovascular patients who have received general anesthesia. Overview Sign‑on bonus available up to $10,000 and relocation assistance up to $7,500. The CVSU serves critically ill patients 18 years or older. Patients admitted to this unit may be receiving treatment for a variety of cardiac‑related conditions, including: Cardiogenic Shock Aortic Dissection Mechanical Circulatory Support (ECMO, VA, VV, VAV, RVAD, and LVAD) Cardiac Tamponade Post‑Open Heart Surgery 24/7 continuous care The CVSU is a diverse group of professionals who have received advanced education and competency in the domain of cardiothoracic services. All new admissions are assigned to one RN so that each nurse can devote attention to the patient until critical elements are achieved. Staffing patterns are adjusted based on acuity and nursing requirements. Schedule: RN Weekender Nights (Saturday and Sunday – 7:00 pm‑7:00 am) Department: Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CVSU) Location: Forsyth Medical Center – Winston‑Salem, NC Unit size: 8 beds Patient‑nurse ratio: 1–2:1 Specialization: Post‑open‑heart thoracotomies, esophagogastrectomies; only unit trained to care for open heart patients. Acts as PACU and recovery within 24 h, moving to step‑down within 48 h. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED required. 4‑year/Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited nursing school required. Inactive, retired, or lapsed RN license for five years or more requires completion of a board‑approved refresher course and reinstatement within one year of completion. Experience: One year relevant experience preferred. Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure in appropriate state required. BLS and ACLS required. CCRN, PCCN, CNRN preferred. Additional Skills (preferred): Previous progressive/telemetry and/or critical care or neuro clinical experience. Responsibilities The Registered Nurse leads the healthcare team by establishing a personalized relationship with the patient and their support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans that promote optimal health or support a peaceful death.
