We have a new job opportunity for a Cord Blood Donation Coordinator, who will serve as the first point of contact and liaison with all external customers and collector partners. Coordinate and document the consent and screening of potential and active donors, compile donor and unit suitability information, and maintain data related to Cord Blood Units for bank and research. Assist with the growth of the Cord Blood Program and the development of customer relations. Promote the Cord Blood Donation Program in the community. Recruit cord blood donors through education and outreach, with a focus on racial/ethnic minority donor recruitment. Provide training and feedback to hospital partners and prenatal educators to increase program awareness and participation.

Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provide excellent customer service to ensure the program's growth and sustainability.
• Develop, deliver, and maintain educational presentations for potential donors, the public, and professional staff working with expectant parents to promote cord blood donation.
• Participate in professional and community events and programs to promote public cord blood donation.
• Provide potential donors with information on cord blood options, educate them, obtain informed consent, and conduct donor screenings.
• Assist in the conduct of policies and procedures related to cord blood collection in accordance with applicable regulations and standards, including procedures for informed consent, donor screening, quarantine, and inventory management.
• Collect and manage donor and collection information.
• Work in collaboration with technologists to ensure all required documentation is present and matched to collected cord blood units.
• Interact with the Medical Director and Quality Assurance personnel to release units into inventory.
• Perform Site Qualification and requalification as needed.
• Prepare and deliver collection kits as needed.
• Coordinate and track materials sent to participating facilities, including collection kits, donor screening materials, and recruitment materials.
• Assist with the training of new staff.
• Assist with cord blood collector training.
• Assist with maintaining the donor coordinator and collector competency assessment programs.
• Assist in the development and implementation of donor recruitment initiatives, with an emphasis on minority donor recruitment.
• Assist in determining and collecting useful metrics and other reporting data related to donor recruitment, outreach, training activities, competency, and collections.
• Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as written.
• Provide periodic donor summaries and reports as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Upon demonstrating excellence in the performance of the principal responsibilities of the Cord Blood Donation Coordinator I, the employee may be eligible for promotion to Cord Blood Donation Coordinator II.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in the health sciences field preferred (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 1 year of interviewing experience and specific familiarity with donor screening requirements preferred.
• Prior experience and expertise in training, facilitating, and presenting.
• Prior experience in OB/GYN practice, blood or tissue banking is desirable.
• Familiarity with FDA and other regulatory policies and practices about biologics or devices is desirable.
• Human Subjects Research training as applicable.
• May be required to maintain appropriate credentialing for partnered Cord Blood collection sites as assignments necessitate. Credentialing may include, but is not limited to, drug screening, background checks, vaccination, and/or immunization records.

Specific job skills include, but are not limited to:

• Functional proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with using a customer relationship management system to document customer interactions (e.g., Salesforce).
• Familiarity within racial minority communities is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated self-motivation, exceptionally sound judgment, and ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy; experience/familiarity with Quality Assurance standards.
• Demonstrated organizational and recordkeeping skills, exceptional attention to detail.
• Outstanding professional writing skills, with public speaking abilities.
• Required mental activities include continuous decision making, use of discretion, interpersonal skills, and the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Other required mental activities used less often include presentations/teaching, teamwork, problem analysis, creativity, customer service, and independent judgment and/or independent action (all used frequently); the performance of basic math (used occasionally); and negotiation, mentoring, training, the performance of advanced math, and the performance of basic programming (all used rarely).
• The ability to use translator services provided by the housing language NMDP-provided translator services other than English is needed.
• Required physical activities include continuous talking and hearing. Other required physical activities used less often include sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive motions of hands/wrists (frequent); and bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling (occasional).
• The ability to push, pull, and lift an average of 3 pounds throughout the day is required, as is the ability to carry an average of 3 pounds.
• Use of a company or personal vehicle for company business requires an acceptable driver's record as defined by the vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• This is a highly regulated position subject to various regulatory and agency requirements and standards. These may include requirements such as FDA, CLIA, AABB, CAP, NetCord-FACT, and NMDP.
• Job conditions to be expected include significant local travel, extended hours, and on-call status (frequent), including evenings and holidays.
• On-call shifts may be required.
• Holiday and weekend work can be expected as a condition of this position.
• As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to patients and/or products, the incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies.

• Telecommuting ability is a rare condition for this role.
• This position has direct exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
• Bloodworks is a community-supported non-profit organization. As such, (from time to time) the incumbent can expect to work with volunteers.
